Summary: Replicator Carter finds more than the location of a weapon in Daniel's mind
Daniel leant against the wall worrying about the fate of the rest of SG-1 and Bra'tac. Had they managed to escape the Replicators? He had known what was going to happen to him as soon as he had materialised in the Replicator idea of a cell. The look in the eyes of the Replicator version of Sam as she asked if they should begin had thrown him was cold and calculating. She had fooled him for a while by pretending to be Oma but it soon became clear that she was baffled by the Ascended's beliefs. After telling him that he had given her the information she needed regarding the one weapon that could stop her, Replicator Sam had continued to delve in his head, into his memories, searching for even more information about the ruins of the monument on Ta'Kara and the Ancients. Then the pain had suddenly stopped and she had left the room. He didn't know what else she had been hoping to find, but was glad for the respite. Hearing a sound, Daniel opened his eyes to see her standing in front of him.
"How long?"
"What do you mean, how long?"
"When I was in her memories she didn't know, so it only happened recently. Do you enjoy it, knowing that you'll destroy her if she finds out?"
"I guess you mean Sam but I have no idea what you're talking about," Daniel said, wondering when the Replicator would explain things. She was sounding very different to earlier, the calm and almost monotonous tones making way for anger and... hatred.
"Do you really think that he will stay with you? Think what you have is more than what is between us... them?"
Daniel's eyes opened a bit wider as he worked out what, and whom, she was talking about. "You've been routing around in my mind, can't you tell for yourself?"
"What do you expect to gain by trying to take Jack from her?"
"I'm not trying to take Jack from anyone. Sam has Pete in her life."
"She's only with him because she doesn't want to be alone while she waits for Jack to retire. Do you really think you could stop them from being together, that even now you can interfere with our love?"
"Your love? I don't know about Sam but the only love Jack has for her is the love of a friend."
"You lie."
"No I don't, Jack loves me."
"He can't, it's wrong. He's not..."
"What?" Daniel asked when she fell silent.
"He's not perverted."
"You're right, he's not. Being bi or gay isn't perverted."
"It goes against everything that is right."
"Only in the minds of narrow minded people."
"He and I are meant to be together."
"How will you be together if you destroy everything?"
"I'll replicate Jack first, the same way I was."
"And you really think that a copy of Jack wouldn't do everything in his power to stop you?"
"I didn't try to stop Fifth."
"That's because you're not Sam and she would."
The human form Replicator looked into Daniel's eyes and calmly said, "Yes. I am. I know everything she knows, everything she feels. We think the same."
"I don't believe you. Sam's not like you, she wouldn't try to 'create' the universe."
"You're wrong. She'd do anything, destroy anyone and anything that got in the way of her being with Jack."
"No. The only mistake Sam has made was not destroying you when she had the chance."
"I agreed to go to the Alpha site because I knew she couldn't destroy me. She couldn't kill herself, which is what she would have been doing if she had used the Ancients' technology on me."
The human machine moved forward and inserted her hand into Daniel's head again. "See for yourself what your Sam would do. What she has done."
Daniel closed his eyes, even though he knew there was no way he could block the new images she was projecting. They flicked through, gaining speed and ferocity.
"Stop. Please, stop!"
There was no answer, the pictures just getting more vicious. Just when Daniel thought his brain was going to shut down a shudder went through the room, knocking the Replicator away from him.
"What..."
"The Asgard. They're trying to stop me."
"Go, Thor."
"Thor has been destroyed, his ship was infected when he tried to stop a ha'tak that I controlled."
"They will stop you."
"Thanks to the information you provided, soon the only weapon that could do that will be destroyed."
Wanting to shake the Replicator, Daniel said, "Just so you know, Jack and I have been lovers since we had Urgo hot-wired in our brains."
The sound of an Asgard transporter beam blocked out the angry outburst and Daniel reappeared on the alien ship.
"Are you okay?"
Turning, Daniel saw Sam looking at him.
"Daniel? Are you okay?" she asked when he didn't reply.
"I'm fine. Thanks for the save."
"Thor figured out how to modify the weapon so even if it didn't destroy the ship the beam slowed it enough that we could get you out."
"She said that Thor was dead."
"Though my ship was overrun with Replicators," came Thor's voice from one side, "I was able to leave before they reached my position."
"You were fortunate that I was in your vicinity," Heimdall said, walking into the room.
As Thor acknowledged this statement Daniel said, "We have to get back to the SGC. There's an Ancient weapon that can destroy the Replicators and they're going after it."
Heimdall directed the ship to head towards Earth and Sam made her way to where Daniel stood.
"I take it she invaded your mind."
"Yeah, and wasn't happy with what she learnt."
"Why?"
"Because there was something about me she didn't like. It made her angry enough to continue playing even after finding out the information she wanted."
"I'm glad you're okay."
"And I'm glad Replicator Carter is nothing like you," Daniel replied, sitting down on the floor.
Sitting down next to him Sam said, "I don't know, it seemed to me we're pretty close."
"How do you mean?"
"She comes from me, Fifth made her as a direct copy." Looking off to one side, she quietly continued, "She showed me something he made her do and let me know how she felt about it. All I can say is that if I was in the same position, I would have been feeling the same."
Before he could answer Thor called out, "Colonel Carter." Giving Daniel a quick smile, Sam got up saying, "Don't worry about it, Daniel," and made her way to the two Asgard.
Daniel remained on the floor, shocked at what Sam had just told him. The Replicator version of Sam had shown him that image and he remembered how coldly she had walked through the wormhole and shot him. How she had refused to shoot Jack when he entered the Gate room and Fifth forcing her to kill her former team leader. If that image was true, if Sam and her Replicator double could kill him without a second thought while agonising over shooting Jack, did he really know her?
Looking out of the window, Daniel thought about some of the other images he had been shown, like Sam moving out of position after Apophis shot Jack when they were on the Nox world. When Sam told Anise she loved Jack during the zatarc testing. When she talked to Jack in her lab after Pete's proposal hoping he would tell her to say no to marrying the policeman. Another time of Sam moving out of position when Jack had been shot which, he now saw, led to a Jaffa being able to get in a position to shoot Janet. An image of Sam about to ask Jack, his mind full of the Ancients' download for a second time, to go to bed with her just as Daniel and Teal'c arrived with donuts.
Shivering slightly, Daniel knew he needed to speak to Jack and was only vaguely aware of being told they had arrived at Earth. As they beamed into Jack's office he wondered...
Would Sam really be a danger to Jack and himself if she ever realised the two of them were in a relationship?
