Summary: Jack goes to see Daniel after discovering he's in love with the archaeologist

Daniel parked up and shut the door of his car and slowly made his way to his apartment. Things were getting worse between Jack and himself, and he wasn't sure what to do to try and make them better. He was making himself a coffee when he heard a knocking from his front door. Opening it, he saw Jack standing in the hall.

"What now Jack?"

"We need to talk."

"I said that months ago, but you didn't listen. I'm too tired to get into another argument with you right now; Janet's only just let me out of the mountain. Besides, why couldn't you have talked to me while we were stuck in that damned pleasure palace for the last three weeks?"

"Please Daniel. I need to explain a few things to you."

Daniel let out a small sigh and stepped back to allow Jack entrance. Neither man said anything else until they were sat down, coffee in hand.

"So. Talk."

"I… I need to apologise about what's been going on between us lately, " Jack started.

"And?"

"I'm sorry. I know things haven't been good for a while…"

"A while! Jack, things haven't been right between us since Sha're died. You've been sniping, angry, hurtful, rude and insensitive. Need I go on?"

Jack shook his head and quietly said, "No."

"Why? What went so wrong in our friendship that you felt it was OK to treat me like I was nothing better than a splinter to be got ridden of? You treat Maybourne better than you've been treating me."

Jack knew that Daniel was hurt, heck he didn't blame the man. He also knew that he had to tell the truth, no matter what happened afterwards. He was nervous as to the reception he was going to get from what he was about to say.

"I figured it out earlier. What my problem is, I mean. I've fallen in love with someone. Been in love with them for a while now."

"So why take it out on me? Did you think it would affect our friendship, you being in love with someone?"

"Subconsciously, yes I did," Jack saw Daniel start when he said that. He knew he had to explain, and quickly.

"Wha…"

"I knew it would make a difference because you're the one I've fallen in love with."

Daniel was shocked. Had he really just heard Jack admit that he loved him?

"Pardon?"

"I fell in love with you Daniel."

Yes, it looked as if he had heard correctly.

"I was sitting in the bar tonight trying to figure out what had gone wrong between us, and I finally figured out it's because you've become the most important thing in my life. Haven't felt like this since Sarah and Charlie and it took me some time to realise it."

Daniel got up, paced and said, "Nice way to treat someone you say you love, Jack. I'd hate to see what you'd do to your enemies."

Jack was worried, he had never seen Daniel this angry.

"I know you're upset at…"

"How dare you come here and drop this bombshell. How dare you think that saying 'I love you' makes it all better."

"I'm sorry."

"Get out."

Jack was stunned, "Daniel, I know…"

"Get out!"

"Please, we need to talk about this Daniel."

"Get OUT!"

Jack slowly got to his feet, unsure how to approach Daniel.

"GOD DAMN IT JACK. GET OUT OF MY HOME BEFORE I SAY SOMETHING WE'LL BOTH REGRET."

Jack walked towards the front door, and before he left said, "I'm sorry I hurt you Daniel. I'm not sorry I love you though."

Getting in his truck to head home, Jack knew he had lost everything important in his life.
