Summary: Whilst at the cabin, Daniel and Jack finally talk about things
Daniel had flown up to Michigan, then driven the hour to the lake where Jack had his cabin. The time had given him the opportunity to think through what he wanted from Jack, what he wanted for the future. Parking up about a mile from where it was located, he walked along the dirt path and as he passed another clump of trees he saw the lake. And next to it, was Jack's cabin. Where no doubt Jack would be hiding from the world.
Making his way to the open door, Daniel looked inside as he heard music playing.
I believe in karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love till you've been burned
I believe the grass in no more greener on the other side
Hearing a banging noise, he looked in the direction it had come from and saw Jack heading towards a small radio.
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye
"I know what I had," he heard Jack say as the music stopped, "The best friend anyone could hope for. Goodbye Daniel."
"Well I'll say goodbye if you insist, although I'd prefer to say hello."
Jack slowly turned, saw him standing in the doorway, and asked, "What do you want Daniel?"
"Well a coffee would be good; you know what I think of the swill they serve on planes. But you didn't mean that, did you. I came to talk."
"Mighty long way to come for a talk, you could have waited till I came back to the SGC. It's only another week and a half."
"I didn't want to wait."
"We could have talked the other night but you told me to get out."
"I told you to get out before I said something we'd both regret. I was angry Jack, surely you could see that?"
"Yeah, I guess. Why don't you come in as you're here now and I'll make that coffee."
Daniel dropped his bag next to the beat up couch and sat down. A few minutes later, Jack placed a steaming cup of hot coffee onto the table in front of Daniel and sat down on the only other chair in the room.
"I heard you quit again."
"So George did announce it, huh?"
"No, he hasn't."
"How do you know then?"
"Because he told me when I went and asked him if I could stay on SG-1. Is this something to do with what happened the other night?"
Jack was confused. Daniel had asked to stay on the team? Before he knew Jack had decided to leave? Getting up, he walked over to the fireplace and stood with his back to his guest.
"I thought you wanted out because of what I told you. George said you had gone to him and asked to be transferred," he answered quietly.
"Di meliora! Non quid agis usurpare unquam cerebra qui cum paritus es?" Daniel exclaimed as he got up and walked over to where Jack stood.
Turning to face Daniel, Jack replied with a grin, "Nisi non debere facio, efficit populos aetsimare to si cognitant es mutum. Cognitavi ne ubi probecti in militiam."
Daniel smacked himself on the head wondering why he had forgotten that Jack could understand Latin, and muttered, "Irrumator!"
"Is dócha nach bhfuil seans ar bith ann?" Jack asked as his grin grew even larger.
Jack knew Irish? Of course Daniel knew that Jack was descended from Irish stock, with a surname like O'Neill is was pretty obvious, but to think he could speak it. For once Daniel didn't know how to respond, but after a few moments he grinned as he realised what he should be doing.
Pulling Jack close, Daniel wrapped his arms round the other man, said, "Tá dúil m'anam agam í, nuair a thosaigh tú ag caint gairsíuil," and kissed the stunned man in his arms.
Jack's mind quickly cottoned on to the fact that Daniel was passionately kissing him, and giving a low moan he opened his lips when Daniel's tongue demanded entrance. Pulling Jack even closer against him, as if he planned to merge the two men into one body, Daniel softened the kiss.
They stood like that for a while, kissing and running their hands over each other, before Daniel pulled away slightly. Taking a deep breath he managed to say, "I did ask to be transferred, after Janet gave me the final all clear. Then, after you came round that night, I went to the General again and asked to stay."
"One moment, are you saying you wanted off the team before I told you I love you?"
"Yeah. Why? Did you think I had gone to Hammond afterwards?"
"Of course I did, why would you have wanted to move before?"
"Because of the problems we were having. I thought that if there was some space between us, we might have been able to sort things out. As soon as I found out what was causing the problem, I knew I had to stay."
"Why would you have to stay? Won't it be difficult having your CO making goo-goo eyes at you all the time?"
"Jack, the moment you make goo-goo eyes at me on base is the moment I use Budge as one of my reference books. After I talked to Sam I realised I needed to stay with the team, with you, because I feel the same way."
"What? You love you as well?" Jack asked raising his eyebrows, needing to hear Daniel say the words.
Daniel shook his head, laughed and replied, "I love you too."
"You talked to Carter about this," Jack asked, once his hormone addled brain digested what Daniel had said.
"Not exactly, she came into my office the next morning and saw something was bothering me. I told her we'd had a talk which didn't end well, and when I didn't say what it was about she asked me two questions."
"Which were?"
"Basically, how would I feel if you weren't in my life? I knew it would be empty if I lost you, that what you said shouldn't have shocked me, because I was in the same position. I knew I want to spend my life getting old with you by my side."
A smile lit up Jack's face, making his eyes twinkle and Daniel fall in love with him just that bit more. After kissing Jack lightly, Daniel pulled him in the direction of the bedroom.
"Come on Jack," he said with a leer, "In the words of an old friend of mine. Let's get nekkid."

Rough translations from Latin
"Di meliora! Non quid agis usurpare unquam cerebra qui cum paritus es?" God forbid! Don't you ever use the brains that you were born with?
"Nisi non debere facio, efficit populos aetsimare to si cognitant es mutum. Cognitavi ne ubi probecti in militiam." Not unless I have to, it makes people underestimate you if they think you're dumb. I learnt that when I started out in the service.
"Irrumator!" - Bastard
Rough translations from Irish
"Is dócha nach bhfuil seans ar bith ann?" I suppose a ride is out of the question?
Tá dúil m'anam agam í, nuair a thosaigh tú ag caint gairsíuil - I love it when you start talking dirty.
