Summary: It's the morning after Daniel suggests to Jack they get nekkid
Jack woke and found himself alone. Putting out his arm, his heart calmed down when he felt that the warmth was slowly leaving the other side of the bed. Smiling, he knew that last night hadn't been another of the erotic dreams he'd been having since his admission to Daniel. He got out of bed, and after having a small detour to the bathroom, Jack walked into the kitchen fully expecting to find Daniel attached to the coffee pot. Finding the room empty, he looked out the window and saw his lover sitting by the lake.
Taking a mug of coffee with him, he made his way to the edge of the calm water. As Jack neared his target, he saw that Daniel was wearing a pair of denim cut offs that didn't leave much to the imagination. Marvelling at strong muscles and at the firm body usually hidden beneath loose BDUs, Jack wondered why Daniel wore a large uniform. He came to the conclusion he was glad, it meant others on base weren't aware of the marvel working with them.
"Could you have made these love bites any bigger Danny? How am I..."
Jack's jaw dropped when Daniel turned to face him. The other man was talking to someone on his mobile. "Yes it was," Daniel answered the person on the other end of the call, "Stop laughing. Stop, it isn't funny. OK, so it is. Alright, hang on."
Standing up, Daniel handed the phone to Jack and said, "Sam wants to talk to you."
"Carter! You're talking to Carter!"
"No, you are."
Making his way to the cabin, Daniel cheekily called out over his shoulder, "Couldn't you find anything to wear babe?"
"Babe!"
Hearing laughter coming from the small device in his hand, Jack slowly lifted it to his ear and said, "Carter."
"Morning Sir," Sam said trying to be serious.
"What can I do for you today?"
"I was wondering how you were enjoying the fishing. Caught anything?"
Jack closed his eyes and willed the ground to open up and swallow him whole. Then, deciding if it came down to it he had already resigned said, "I'm enjoying it nicely thank you. Caught me a nice archaeologist, rare breed that's not often found outside his natural habitat. How about you? Having fun with your do-hickeys at whatever godforsaken hour it is there? What time is it anyway? 0500?"
"Its 0630 here Sir, and I've just figured out how to get this one working."
Jack could almost see the grin that was on Sam's face so he said, "I hear I have you to thank for Daniel's visit."
"I just asked him a couple of questions. Daniel made the decision he needed to talk to you, I'm just glad things are better. He did say just now that it was good to finally see your tackle."
The mouthful of coffee that Jack had just taken ended up in the lake as he spluttered a surprised "What!"
Back in Cheyenne Mountain Sam realised how easily someone could get the wrong idea if they heard the conversation. Well, the right idea she thought after hearing the joy in Daniel's voice and Jack talk of love bites.
"He meant your fishing tackle Sir."
Jack shook his head and laughed, he knew exactly what Daniel had meant when he'd been talking of tackle. And it had nothing to do with fishing.
"Thanks anyway Sam. So, what's been happening since I left?"
Walking back towards the cabin, Jack listened as she told him about the visit to the mall she had taken with Cassie the day before, and about how quickly the teenager was growing up. Not seeing Daniel anywhere, Jack walked through to the bedroom and found him drinking coffee whilst lying naked on the bed reading a book.
"What? Yeah I'm still here. Something's just come up, call you back later," Jack said as he switched off the phone. Leaving it on the drawers next to the door, he stalked over to the side of the bed.
"Something came up?" Daniel queried without taking his eyes from what he was reading.
"I saw you and it did," Jack replied.
Daniel looked up, saw exactly what Jack was talking about, and closed the book. Putting it, his glasses and the coffee on the bedside table, he said, "And I suppose you think we best take care of it."
"Of course," Jack agreed as he climbed onto the bed, "since I hear you want to see my tackle."
"Who..." Daniel started to say before realising where Jack would have got his information. "Sam told you what I said."
"That she did. You know Danny, a good angler will regularly check to make sure his rod is in working order."
"Is that the case?"
"Yep."
"And of course, you consider yourself to be a good angler."
"In this case I think we both are."
"Then maybe both of us should check the state of our rods," Daniel said with a grin.
"Tell you what Daniel. You check mine, I'll check yours and we'll see what we catch."
