Summary: Wherein they take Shifu to the mountain...

Hank groaned and rubbed his forehead. He could feel the impending headache coming on. "Okay, let me get this straight. Dr. Jackson's step-son used to be ascended but decided he wanted to see what being a human was like?"

"Yep." Jack smiled sympathetically. He remembered having days like this.

"And he's the Harcesis, which doesn't matter because he deliberately made sure he didn't remember that part," Jack added with as much sincerity as he could muster, because if the kid spoke Chinese, who knew what else was squirreled away in that twisty mind of his.

Landry leaned forward to push the intercom when Walter opened his door. "Sir?"

"I need paperwork for..."

"Dr. Jackson's step-son? I've already given him the paperwork and Dr. Lam is checking him over right now."

"That's fine," Landry answered, was about to ask another question when Walter bustled back in with a bottle of pain-killers and a bottle of water.

"Here, sir," he said and left the room.

"I'd really like to know how he does that," Landry grumbled around his pills.

"I found it's best not to know, Hank," Jack said.

Shifu sighed as Dr. Lam flashed the light in his eyes again. "Really, I am in perfect health."

"Nice try," Daniel snorted from where he was filling out paperwork. "Jack and I both tried that and it does no good."

Carolyn flashed Daniel a dirty look but stepped back. She was still fascinated by her first descended person. Well, Dr. Jackson was the first that she'd met, but Dr. Frasier and Dr. Warner had handled everything medically for him at the time.

"Can I go now?"

Daniel smirked at the typical teenaged long-suffering tone. "Doc?"

"Yes, he can go," Dr. Lam said reluctantly but without any real reason to keep him.

"Excellent," Jack said from the doorway.

"General," Carolyn said with a smile. She had a soft spot for Jack O'Neill. He'd never treated her less than professionally despite the fact that she was General Landry's daughter and he'd known her since she was a little girl.

"Aht!" Jack held up a finger. "I'm a civilian now. Call me Jack."

"Uncle Jack," she said obediently, but with a smile.

He grinned. "Better," he said. "C'mon, Danny. Let's fill out the rest of that stuff at home."

Shifu heaved a huge sigh of relief and hopped off of the exam table. "Good, I would like to get something to eat. Maybe an Italian?" he said with a sly grin at Jack's snort and Daniel's groan.

"It was funnier the first time," Daniel said long-sufferingly, getting to his feet. "Jack, I can see that your iffy sense of humor is going to be your contribution to Shifu's education."

"Gotta start somewhere," Jack replied with a grin.

Voices in the passageway made Daniel sigh, and he groaned when he found his arms full of Vala.

"Daniel! I thought you had taken vacation!" she said brightly.

Jack shared a smirk with Shifu as the statuesque woman made a fuss over Daniel. She seemed to be more affectionate now that she knew Danny was off of the market.

"I am," Daniel said, as he pulled back from her hug. "Though what are you doing here? I thought you and Sam and Mitchell were going off road biking?"

Vala laughed wickedly. "Dr. Lam didn't tell you?" she asked, and the sight of Mitchell, in a wheelchair with Carter pushing it made Daniel gape.

"What happened?"

"Hey Jackson," Mitchell greeted morosely. His face was banged up, streaks of red dirt going up into his hairline

Sam smiled at her teammate, though it dimmed slightly at the sight of Jack. "He took a hill wrong and his bike went one way, and he went another. It was pretty spectacular," she said. "The Russian judges gave the landing a 7."

"Hey, sir," she added after a beat.

"Geez Carter," Jack teased, gently, because he knew her heart was still raw. "I'm retired, call me Hey you, or maybe Jack..."

"Just not 'late for dinner'," Daniel followed the joke through with an eyeroll, grinning at the groaning from the rest of his team.

At that moment Vala spied Shifu. "Hello, and who is this handsome lad?"

Shifu had been keeping back, watching the interactions with interest, but now he stepped forward and held out his hand. "Hello Vala Mal Doran. I am Shifu Jackson."

"Shifu?" Carter asked incredulously. "Jackson?" she squeaked. Vala and Mitchell looked at her in surprise.

"Colonel Samantha Carter," Shifu smiled.

Daniel held up a hand when Sam looked like she was about to burst into a million questions. "Yes, he is ~that~ Shifu. He decided to not stay ascended but to see what living like a human was like. Shifu, the guy in the wheelchair is my teamleader, Colonel Mitchell."

"Ascended, eh?" Mitchell asked. "So, what kind of hijinks did you and Daniel get around to when you guys were ascended together?"

Jack narrowed his eyes at Daniel. "Hey!"

Shifu looked positively innocent, if it weren't for the wicked twinkle in his eye. "Well, I really don't remember most of it, but there was this one time..."

"Moving ~right~ along," Daniel interrupted.

"What about being harcesis?" Sam asked him.

Vala's eyes sharpened at the word, but Shifu shrugged. "I chose not to retain the memories of the goa'uld. It would impact my being a normal human."

"Not to mention painting a bulls-eye on his back," Jack muttered, and he and Sam shared an understanding look.

"Anyway," Daniel said patiently, "He's going to live with Jack and I and do the regular kid thing, including high school..."

"And mowing the lawn and washing the car," Jack tacked on gleefully.

"Oh, you poor kid," Mitchell grinned.

Dr. Lam bustled in at that moment and stopped. "So, what have you done to yourself, Colonel?"

"I'm hoping he didn't break something in his femur during his impromptu stunt show," Sam said matter of factly.

Jack jerked his head at Shifu and Daniel in a 'Let's go' move, but Shifu walked over to Mitchell and held out his hand. "It was most pleasant to meet you, Colonel Mitchell."

Mitchell took the proffered hand, "You too, kid. When Teal'c comes back we'll have a cookout, okay?" Jack grinned and just happened to glance over at Daniel in time to see his eyes widen before he turned back to see Shifu stepping away.

"I am hungry, can we eat Italian?" Shifu asked, moving towards the door.

Jack nodded but wondered what the hell had just happened. As they headed out, he and Daniel shared a snicker when the heard Carter say, "No Vala, he is way too young for you to date!"

One of Dr. Lam's nurses excused herself, and went to make a private phone call to people she knew would be very interested in a former Harcesis.
