Summary: What did Jack say that every kid on Earth needs?
Shifu shifted his homework aside and stared at the bundle in Jack's arms. "What is that?"
"If you're gonna live on Earth and be a kid, then you need a dog," Jack replied. He set the puppy down and it danced towards Shifu, it's little tale wagging so fast it was a blur.
Unable to help himself, Shifu gingerly picked the puppy up and was rewarded by a pink tongue licking him enthusiastically. He laughed and nuzzled the animal, enjoying the energy of the small creature.
Jack grinned at the picture the teenaged boy and the small terrier made. "He's a Wire Fox Terrier, they're smart and loyal."
Shifu looked over the wriggling puppy and smiled. "He's amazing."
"He's yours, you have to give him a name."
"Mine?" Shifu asked, scandalized. "He's a sentient creature. I do not condone slavery."
Jack coughed into his hand. "I don't think you need to worry about his sentience quite yet. He's a young pup and needs care, food, cleaning up after he pees on the floor, things like that. And you're responsible for his behavior. He won't be your slave, but he will want to obey you because you're his..." he mentally discarded the word 'owner', "Friend."
"Ah." Shifu smiled at the puppy who had grabbed a piece of his shirt and was growling. "I will call him Hani."
Jack refrained from rolling his eyes. He'd known the kid wouldn't pick Spot or something, in say, ~English~. "What does it mean?" he asked as Shifu set the pup on the floor.
"Happy," Shifu said, and made a face when the puppy piddled on the floor. "No, Hani," he said and accepted the paper towel from Jack, ignoring the laugh.
Daniel had been gone for 5 days on a trip for the SGC, and was exhausted, so surprise made him almost trip when he opened the door and a puppy began barking fiercely. "Um, hello?"
"Hani, stop barking please. That is Daniel," Shifu's voice came from inside of the house, and to Daniel's surprise the puppy listened, his docked tail wagging fiercely as Daniel came into the house.
"Hello, Hani," Daniel said, bemused, holding his fingers out for the puppy to sniff. He had to smile when the puppy began to lick him enthusiastically.
Shifu came walking out of the hallway and smiled. "You're home!"
"Mm," Daniel agreed, pulling his tie off. "Where's Jack and when did you get Hani? Nice name, by the way." Hani wriggled on Daniel's foot until Daniel picked him up.
"Jack said that if I lived here and wanted to be a kid, I needed a dog."
Daniel laughed. "I should've seen this one coming," he said, petting Hani's ears and making the pup snuggle for more.
"I wasn't convinced at first. I told Jack that I did not want to own another sentient being. Hani explained that people do not know that dogs are sentient, but that Jack is right and that everyone needs a dog," Shifu said matter of factly.
"Oh." Daniel looked at Hani with resignation and got a happy slurp up the side of his face.
It was never easy.
