Summary: There is a tragedy, will Admiral O'Neill survive to see Daniel again?

One Year Later

Jack was taking a well deserved leave and about to head into the aircraft annex of the Smithsonian, when a voice cried out, "Jack?"

He turned to see Daniel, in the flesh, standing behind him, his face alight with love and excitement.

"Danny?" he choked out, suddenly blurry eyed as the other man walked up and wrapped him in a hug, "I've missed you." Daniel whispered, before pulling back to a proper 'friend' distance.

"I thought you were in Syria for the month." Jack said, a little dazed still as they walked the sidewalks outside the museum.

"I was, but I finished early, and was hoping I might find you here." Daniel confessed, his hands in the pockets of his white linen pants. It was the first time that they had seen each other in a year.

"I'm glad." Jack said simply.

Daniel grinned, "Me too. So you wanna go look at some old aircraft?" The two men made an afternoon of it, checking out the vintage, and new aircraft at the new Smithsonian annex for aircraft. Jack then took Daniel to dinner at an Italian place he knew, then outside, beside his car Jack looked at Daniel seriously.

"3 and a half more years."

"I know." They shook hands and left, feeling like they were being ripped in two.

It was another year and Jack was now Admiral, assigned to a desk in Washington DC. He had an aide, a young pup named Lt. Marc Carter, his former XO's little brother, who was sometimes more of a hindrance than help. It wasn't all bad, he dealt with appropriations for the Navy Seals, fighting for every penny to keep them up to date in tech support, training and money for little jaunts around the globe.

Walking up the stairs to Congress Jack winced a little, his knees were bothering him on the freezingly cold winter day. He had a meeting with one of the Congressman, then he was free to loaf for the remainder, he intended to sit in his new hot tub and see if his knees would unlock. He'd already cut Carter loose for the day so that was one less worry. He made it inside, undid his jacket then headed to the Congressman Andrews office.

He smiled at the perky secretary, "Admiral Jack O'Neill for the Congressman."

"Of course, his last meeting is running a little late, if you'd take a seat." He did, stifling a grunt as he did so. He'd been there for perhaps five minutes and the door opened, and the love of his life walked out.

"Daniel." He said dazedly, filling his eyes with his lover.

"Jack!"

The Congressman grinned, "You two know each other I take it?"

Daniel smiled, "When he was still a sea going Captain, he rescued me and my team from Egypt."

"Oh yes, I'd heard about that." The Congressman commented.

"How long are you here for?" Jack asked.

"2 days."

"Great, let's get together tonight, knock back some beer?" Jack asked and Daniel nodded, "You bet, 7?"

"Actually, if the Congressman doesn't keep me long I'll be finished sooner rather than later."

Daniel nodded and promptly sat down, "I'll wait."

"Come on back Admiral, I'll let you two get reacquainted after your money pitch."

"Yes Sir."

Jack sighed and tossed his cover onto the small table beside the door, he then turned and shut the door behind Daniel before roughly shoving him onto it and kissing him for all he was worth.

"Jack." Daniel gasped when Jack let him up for air, his eye dilated so that the blue was a small rim around the iris.

"Danny." Jack whispered before kissing the line of Daniel's jaw, the licking his throat over his Adam's apple, making the younger man groan. Lifting his head he smiled at his lover, "Guess what?"

Daniel had to clear his throat twice before he could respond, "What?"

"I love you and miss you." He grinned as Daniel smiled, "I never would have guessed."

Stepping back Jack grunted, "As much as I want to throw you down on the floor and ravish you, I need to get into the hot tub and see if my knees come back to life."

Concern flashing across his face Daniel knelt and began to feel Jack's knees, "They're all swollen, what have you been doing? Don't you have an aide to do all of this stuff for you?" His tone was accusatory and Jack grinned.

"Just a lot of stair climbing recently." Jack sighed as Daniel rubbed a sore spot.

"Let's get us both into the hot tub and I'll massage your knees for you." Daniel said and began to undress. Jack's eyes lit up, "Can do!"

Inside the hot tub, bottles of beer on the edge, the two men talked quietly. "You've been doing some good work Daniel." Jack praised, referring to the money being raised for the children who had been orphaned by the war in Afghanistan.

Daniel took a sip of his beer, "The Minister of Arts and Sciences in Egypt had visited to see if there could be a restoration of the statues destroyed by the Taliban, and he had been overwhelmed by the homeless children everywhere. He started the ball rolling, I'm only trying to keep it there."

"Don't sell yourself short, 9 orphanages in a year? That's spectacular."

He gave Jack a glance over his beer, "Don't think I didn't see the contribution that you made Jack. One of my assistants was so impressed that she set it on my desk." He was amused to see his lover blush.

"It's never enough." Jack said deprecatingly.

"I love you Jack." Daniel replied quietly, and the two men gazed into each other's eyes.

"Two years, 8 months, 4 days and whatever hours." Jack said, holding up his beer in salute.

Daniel clinked his bottle against Jack's, "Not soon enough!" He said fervently.

"So, where do you wanna live?" Jack asked.

Thinking quietly Daniel shrugged, "I'm to be on a dig in Kuwait just after you retire. I don't really have a place I live, per se, so where you are is fine with me."

"I like Kuwait." Jack smiled, "I have a house I inherited from my Great Aunt, it's on the coast of Maine. I thought maybe we could live there in between your digs?"

"On the ocean?" Daniel asked with a smile.

"Right on the ocean, actually a huge cliff overlooking the ocean. It's..." Jack paused for a second, "wild, untamed." He looked embarrassed.

Daniel nodded knowingly, "Like the desert is for me." He said.

"What about us?" Daniel made a gesture of them as a couple, "We're not going to run into problems?"

"Nah, the Mayor is a lesbian. It's a pretty nice town, I went there all of the time as a kid, and I usually take any long leaves there as well. They are the least judgmental bunch of people you'll ever meet."

"Paradise." Daniel sighed.

"Well, only until Little League season, then the monster Mom's come out and play." Daniel choked on his beer, then snorted laugh, making Jack laugh too.

They spent the next day making love and talking, then Jack had to go to work and Daniel had to fly back to Egypt. It had been a welcome break for them both, and it sealed their love even tighter, which made it hurt doubly as they were separated yet again.

It was almost the first of July, the days long and hazy in Virginia.

"Carter!" Jack barked and the earnest blonde young man immediately appeared, "Yes Sir?"

"Where are those requisitions for the Seals in Diego Garcia?" He asked mildly, amused to see the young man blanch.

"I'm sorry Sir, I thought you said San Diego. I'll go get them right away Sir." And the Lt. rushed out in a panic, making Jack chuckle. "God, what a wet behind the ears kid."

Jack dropped his favorite pen and watched with disgust as it rolled under the huge cavern where his legs normally went. "Damn it! Shit, shit, shit!" he cursed and gingerly got down on his knees and was just crawling underneath when there was a loud explosion, the building shook and a ton of stone, metal, shattering glass and debris crashed into his office. Jack felt something snap his left arm, then he pulled his legs under quickly and pulled out a handkerchief to cover his face, and ruefully waited the explosions and the aftershocks out, sure that his ticket was about to be punched.

Lt. Carter was on his way back and had just turned down the corridor when he felt the jolt, then the rumble and saw the hallway ahead of him fill with fire, glass and tons of stone as the blast ripped into the building. "Oh goddamnit." He said and turned back around and rushed to the first office he could to use the phone.

Daniel was in his hotel room, watching the live news in shock. He saw the section of the Pentagon that was damaged, the fires being battled. He knew that Jack was under there somewhere and all he wanted to do was cry and rage against the injustice of it all. He turned up the sound and listened, "They're still trying to pull survivors out but there is almost no hope that there is anyone left alive in the rubble." The perky young reporter said.

"Oh God." Daniel whimpered, and fruitlessly dialed his cell phone, knowing it would ring and ring because Jack was dead.

"'Lo?"

"Jack?" Daniel gasped incredulously.

"Danny! Thank God, where are you?"

"Egypt!"

There was hoarse laughter, "Wouldn't you fuckin' know it! Listen, I'm still in the damaged part of the building, trapped under my desk. I tried to call 911 but can't get through. Let them know I'm still alive Danny. My battery's goin'. Love ya." And the phone went dead.

Daniel stared in disbelief at his phone then he frantically dialed the Congressman, "This is Dr. Daniel Jackson, I need to speak with Congressman Andrews right away, it's an emergency."

A moment later the Congressman came on, "Dr. Jackson, I don't know if you've heard...."

"I just called Jack O'Neill! He's trapped under the desk in his office, he can't get through to 911 on his phone but I got through from Egypt!" Daniel babbled.

Stunned silence, "I'll let the rescuers know right away Dr. Jackson, thank you." And the phone went dead again.

Jack was trying to ease his knees into a more comfortable position when his phone rang again, "O'Neill."

"Admiral O'Neill? This is Captain Sparrows with the rescue squad, you're still in your office?"

Jack coughed, "Yeah, dropped my damn pen and crawled under that fucking behemoth of a desk and it saved my life. I might have it bronzed."

Captain Sparrows chuckled, looking at the Admiral's aide and the other anxious rescuers and gave them a thumbs up, "We'll try to get you out of there as soon as possible. Are there any fires where you are?" he watched as his team now had a new reason to go into the rubble, someone was alive.

"I don't smell smoke, just the fucking stone dust that's turning my lungs into rock." Jack tried to push the debris away, but it was stuck.

"Good, where is your office exactly?"

Jack closed his eyes for a moment, "I'm approximately 35 feet from the south corner stairwell, 2nd story."

"Got it. Hang on." Sparrow barked into his radio to direct the rescuers.

With a cough Jack listened to the man bark orders, "Yo Sparrow."

"Admiral?"

"I'm going to let you go, my battery is low. Call me back in fiver."

"You got it." And Sparrow hung up, then organized the fire and rescue events.

Daniel dialed again and heard Jack answer, "Sparrow?"

"No Jack, it's me. Are you ok, are you hurt?" Daniel's voice was frantic.

"Daniel, take a breath, I'm ok. I think my left arm is broken, and I'm breathing in the dust, and I'm stuck in an area the size of my seabag, but otherwise from that I'm good." Jack coughed again, then winced as he pushed his injured arm.

"Listen Jack, retire early. Come to Egypt." Daniel asked.

"Oh Danny, nice idea but I'd like to get my retirement income. I'll have been in 30 years, and it's a nice chunk of change, I don't want to be a 'kept' man." Jack chuckled, then coughed again.

Daniel sighed, "I understand. I'll let you go, but you listen for the rescuers. Love you. "

"You too Danny." He sighed as he closed his phone, then settled back to rest. He was beginning to feel a bit lightheaded.

All told it took 4 hours for the rescuers to reach him. His aide hovered, making sure that everyone knew that Jack was his Admiral and that they'd better give him the best care. At Walter Reed Hospital it was confirmed that his left arm had a bad double fracture, his lungs were compromised by stone and plaster dust and that he was severely dehydrated. After he chased his aide out with a, "I'm alive and you're not my mother Carter! Go get some rest, I don't want to see you until tomorrow!" He was kept for observation overnight, and in the morning when he opened his eyes he groaned and shut them again.

"God Marty, I thought you'd leave my body in peace." He complained.

NCIS investigator Martin Ramsey laughed, "Well gee Jack, your aide was pretty sure you were alive. If you were dead I wouldn't have bothered!" He gently touched Jack's fingers that protruded from his cast and Jack clasped them before letting them go with a sigh. Martin and Jack had been lovers back when they were still wet behind the ears officers, Martin a Marine and Jack a Seal. They'd parted amicably and fondly twenty something odd years ago.

Jack chuckled, then opened his eyes, "So, tell me what happened."

The other man settled into his chair, "Well, a truck bomb exploded, we think he was a Saudi, and took out the south section. You were the only survivor of 23 offices."

Jack grimaced, "Christ." He cursed, "It was dumb fucking luck. I dropped my favorite pen and crawled underneath my desk to get it." He looked at the other man, "They made those old government desks out of oak, they could probably survive a nuke."

The other man was writing quickly, "Can you tell me what time?"

He tilted his head up to the ceiling and blinked thoughtfully, "I dunno, a quarter after 10? I know I started trying to call 911 on my cell phone at 10:17, and couldn't get through."

The other man nodded, "I understand a friend from Egypt called you."

Jack barked a laugh, "Can you believe it? There I am, sure that this is my last day on Earth. Can't call anyone to let them know I'm alive when my phone rang. It was my best friend Dr. Daniel Jackson, he's an archeologist in Cairo." He sighed then was aware of the other man's eyes on him.

"What?" he met Marty's eyes squarely and the other man nodded.

"There are 6 news organizations that would like to have a crack at you." Ramsey quirked a grin at the look of disgust that crossed Jack's face.

"No, absolutely not!"

Lt. Carter opened the door, "Sir, you have a visitor." His face was pale with excitement.

There was a commotion at the door and the Vice President, Robert Jackson, formerly a Naval pilot and an old friend of Jack's came in, along with two Secret Service agents.

"Spade!"

"Ace!" the two men grinned at each other and the VP came over and shook Jack's uninjured had vigorously.

"I'm glad to see that you made it Jack." His brown eyes were serious in his handsome black face and Jack shook his head, "I thought my ticket was punched, no doubt about it Robby."

Ramsey stood, "Sir, Jack, I need to make my report. I'll call you if I have any more questions Jack." And he left.

"Yeah, I'll hold my breath." Jack rolled his eyes and the men laughed.

Robby looked at his former Annapolis classmate, "You always had the luck Ace. Do you have anyone that you need to call?"

"Nope, you know Dad and Mom both died in the 90's, and you married Cecelia, so I'm unencumbered by people that give a damn."

"Well, when I saw who it was who had survived I had to visit. Just how long have you been in DC without calling me?" Robby asked with exasperation.

"Come on Rob, you're as busy as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. All I'm doing here is paper shuffling for the Seals."

"You're still a good friend, now you have to come over and see Sissy. She'll kick your ass for not calling."

Jack groaned, "Tell her I love her and I'll bring a bottle of her favorite wine."

"Sir?" a Doctor came in and the VP stood, "It's time for us to go Jack. I'll give you a call for dinner soon." He turned and flashed Jack a smile, "Vote for me?" The VP was running for the thankless job of President..

"As if I had a choice." Jack grinned and as the VP and his party of Secret Service walked out the Doctor came in.

"Well Admiral, I'm Captain James. There's no reason for you to stay, your lungs are clearing up nicely and everything else looks good." He was flipping through Jack's chart, "You have a nasty break so be careful with the left arm." He looked up, "The Chief of Staff has asked you to make a statement to the press, then he promised to get them off your back.

"Yippee."

Jack winced at all of the press that were in front of him, the heat from the lights making him sweat.

"My name is Admiral Jack O'Neill. First of all, please remember all of the good men and women who died yesterday in the terrorist attack. They were my friends, they had families that will sorely miss them. Me, I'm here because I'm a klutz." There were muted chuckles, "I dropped my pen on the floor and despite my bad knees I crawled underneath my desk, which I intend to have bronzed by the way," more laughter, "and it saved my life. I'm no better or worse than the good men and women who died. I wish to let the families know that their sacrifice will always be remembered by me. Thank you." Lt. Carter wheeled him out of the room.

"Whew, if I never see another newscamera it'll be too soon." He complained and was rewarded by his aide's laugh.

Back in his room he gathered his stuff and looked around before looking a the Doctor, "I'm walking out of here Captain, no wheelchair for me."

"Sir, I..." but Jack shook his head, "I don't pull rank often, but I really will this time."

"Yes Sir. Good luck." The Doctor shook his hand and with Carter's help Jack headed out the back way, just in case more journalists were sneaking about.

The next afternoon Daniel watched the taped interview with teary eyes. He had come so close to losing Jack and was, quite frankly, tempted to fly back to DC that very day just to hold him in his arms. Shaking his head he got up and went down to the hotel bar to get a drink. He sat there silently, nursing a whiskey when a familiar voice said, "Kinda early for that ain't' it?"

Daniel literally could not believe his eyes, "Jack?"

"In the flesh." He waved his cast, "Only with a broken wing." He sat in the chair across from Daniel and ordered a beer.

With a stammer he couldn't mask he asked, "How did you know I needed to see you?" Daniel's eyes were filled with emotion, so much so that Jack had to swallow hard.

"Because I felt the same thing Danny." He replied gruffly. He watched as Daniel shot gunned his whiskey, "Upstairs." He said and stood.

"Oh yeah." Jack agreed, willingly leaving his beer behind.

Upstairs Daniel slowly and carefully undressed Jack, pressing his lips to each bit of newly revealed skin, agonizing over the bruises. He reveled in Jacks' body, reveled in the fact that Jack was here with him, not buried under stone because of a terrorist.

Jack lay back, eyes tightly closed, his good hand running restlessly through Daniel's hair as Daniel thoroughly explored him. He moaned when he felt Daniel's fingers touch his cock ever so lightly, then when he felt his face nuzzled down there, which was then followed by Daniel's agile tongue. "Danny." He whispered and Daniel took the head of his cock into his mouth and Jack lost all power of speech.

Dragging his fingers through Jack's pubic hair, Daniel pressed his face there, taking a deep breath of Jack's scent, memorizing it all over again. It intoxicated him, made him want more and he took it, taking Jack's cock in, first the head, his tongue memorizing the length, shape and hardness before deep throating it, holding Jack's hips down so he wouldn't be choked by accident. He sucked, then pulled back to see he blissful look on Jack's face.

Jack felt like he was on fire, and then he felt the familiar tightening in his balls, "Gonna come." He gasped, then moaned as Daniel pulled back. He opened his eyes to see the serious look on his lover's face, "I want you inside of me Jack." This caused Jack to gasp and his eyes to cross, "Christ Daniel, make me come why dontcha!"

"That's the plan." Daniel said. He reached under the pillow for the lube, then settled back on his knees, lazily stroking his cock while preparing his ass for Jack.

"That is possibly the sexiest thing that I have ever seen." Jack's voice was husky and made Daniel smile.

Moving up over Jack's erection Daniel slowly lowered himself on it, arching his back as he felt the incredible sensation of Jack filling him, stretching him to the point of ecstasy. "OhgodJackIloveyousomuch." And he began to move.

Jack thrust up into his lover, the tightness and the heat making him almost crazy with want. He could feel his climax coming up and he began to jerk Daniel off with long tight strokes with his good hand, "I'm gonna come Danny." He grunted and Daniel nodded, pushed himself down on Jack hard and arched his back with a shout, "Jack!" and his come spurted out, covering Jack's hand and some landing on his chest. The tightening of Daniel's anus made Jack shudder and pour himself into his lover's ass with a half shout and half moan of Daniel's name.

Daniel groaned and collapsed over Jack's chest, his face pressed into Jack's neck. "Wow."

Jack chuckled, still not able to feel his toes, "Oh yeah."

Raising his head Daniel folded his arms and rested his chin on them, regarding his lover. "Are you ok?"

Knowing that Daniel wasn't talking about the aftermath of great sex, Jack frowned thoughtfully, "I'm a lucky s.o.b., and if you're asking if I'll have nightmares.. " he shrugged, "We'll have to see."

"Well, I don't know about you, but I was fucking traumatized." Daniel said with asperity. "I knew that you were buried under that rock and I dialed your phone expecting it to ring and ring, when suddenly you answered!" He stopped to wipe his eyes, "I was never so happy to hear your voice in my life."

"You have no idea." Jack said softly. "I was sure that I'd never see you again, or talk to you, or see how your eyes closed when I make you come, or to actually take you to Maine and live together like we had planned." He closed his eyes, "Then my phone rang and it was you!" He smiled and Daniel leaned down and gave him a full-bodied hug. "I can't say this enough, but I love you Jack."

"Me too babe." Jack rested his face in Daniel's hair and breathed deeply of the scent that was uniquely his, soap and the undertones of aftershave and sex. They lay together that way for awhile until Jack looked at his watch and groaned, "Danny, I need to get to the airport. My flight leaves in a little over 3 hours."

Daniel sighed, "Wham, bam, thank you Sir?"

With a chuckle Jack took his hand and smacked Daniel on the ass, "Youbetcha. Help me take a shower, I can get the cast mildly wet but not soaked."

With a groan Daniel rolled out of bed, "Come on then, the security at the airport is atrocious."
