Spring Is Nigh

Jack stood on Daniel's porch in his shirtsleeves, glancing around the quiet neighborhood. It was Colorado in March and just starting to get warm, it had hit 43 degrees that day and he was sure he could see the green of daffodils poking up through the leftover snow in Daniel's backyard.

Daniel opened the door to peer at Jack. 'C'mon in, Jack. Where's your jacket? You must be freezing!'

The older man snickered at his friend. 'Nah, it's sunny today, Danny.' And then he saw what Daniel was wearing. 'What's the matter, ~Desert boy~? Too cold for ya?'

This made the flannel pajama pant, old Air Force academy sweatshirt (hey, that's mine), handknit sock and blanket over the shoulders clad Daniel scowl at him. 'Hey, just because I'm not a freak who doesn't realize when it's freezing!'

Jack pulled the irascible man into his arms and put his cool face into the warm neck, eliciting a yelp and a shiver before the hug was returned.

'I miss you,' Daniel mumbled. 'Miss sleeping with you and being ~warm~.'

'A couple more months, Danny,' Jack murmured. 'I promise.'

'Good,' Daniel said, and his stomach rumbled. 'C'mon, I've got grilled cheese and tomato soup in the kitchen.'

Jack had to smile as he followed the very nice ass clad in flannel. Only two more months and this would all be his. Not a bad return for 10 years of saving the Earth's ass.
