Summary: Rodney brought a little piece of home to the Pegasus Galaxy... and so what if he didn't *exactly* get permission first

Focused as he was on his work, Rodney didn't register what, exactly, the Major asked him, only that it was Sheppard and that he didn't feel like answering stupid questions just now.

"Oh, and I'm just supposed to know that?" He snapped without looking up. " You waltz right in here and expect me to just wave my hands around and magically pull the answer out of my butt. Well, I'm sorry. It doesn't work that way. I need time to figure this out and make it work before I can answer your trivial questions. Now leave."

"All I asked was 'Do you have a stapler?'..."

Rodney blinked up at Sheppard.

"Oh... Yes, of course."

"Can I borrow it?"

"No."

"Please?"

"No."

"Are you using it?"

"... No."

"Come on, McKay--"

"Why do you even want to borrow it? You can't seriously expect me to believe that you're doing paperwork?"

"... Ye~eah... Paperwork."

"Major... With our limited resources, there isn't even enough actual paper in Atlantis for you to do paperwork with..."

"Then why do you need it so bad?"

"If you must know, it has sentimental value..."

"Yeah, well, I need it for a stapler fight that was supposed to start--" Sheppard glanced down at his watch and then back up at Rodney."Three minutes ago!"

"Well you can't have it!"

Sheppard grabbed it, turning it over in his hands. It read "From the desk of Major Samantha Carter" on the side.

"You little intergalactic stalker! You stole her stapler?"

Rodney snatched it back, his work forgotten for the moment.

"No. I didn't... steal it. She gave it to me..."

"Re~eally..."

"Yes!... Well, maybe not, precisely... gave it to me. She might not even know it's gone."

Sheppard took it from him again.

"Then she won't mind if I borrow it."

Rodney made another grab for it, but Sheppard moved it to his other hand. There they were, standing chest to chest, Sheppard's arm stretched out behind them as far as it would go, when Carson walked in. He looked at them, blinking for a moment in stunned silence and before jerking a thumb over his shoulder.

"I can come back later..."

He was gone before either of them could respond. Rodney sprang away from Sheppard while the other man just grinned at him.

"This can't be good..." He said in a hushed voice. Sheppard simply winked at him and left.

The stapler was still in his hand.
