Summary: Things are not as they seem...
Looking across the car park my eyes met two large brown eyes. A little girl was smiling at me. I was besotted.
The little girl gave me a shy wave, and her “mummy” turned. She too smiled. I was in love.
Big, strong, Captain Carter had fallen hook, line and sinker in an instant. Daniel said, “You’ve never known love, have you Sam?” I had now.
The woman beckoned me across, and said in a gentle, lilting voice. “Please join us.”
Sitting down, the little girl jumped on my knee. I blushed as she gave me a big hug. A delightful laugh rang out as the woman said, “My niece seems to have taken a shine to you. Meet Annie, down for Thanksgiving with my brother and his family.”
Smiling back at the two little ladies it was me that gave thanks.
A small voice whispers in my ear, “What’s wrong, Sam?”
I turn to Janet Fraiser and say, “Nothing at all. I was just remembering 5 years ago today and the Thanksgiving I fell in love with your niece.”
A delightful laugh rings out, “You cradle snatcher, you.”
Leaning towards her, I chuckle, then pull her towards me and kiss her deeply.
Once again it is me that gives thanks.
