Summary: Teal'c and Daniel, but just trying to figure it all out and fill in a couple plot holes
I am most distressed by the events that have occurred during my absence from base at Stargate Command. Never again will I indulge myself with what my friends term "a vacation". Although visiting "Reno" with Major Carter was far more entertaining than "fishing" with Colonel O'Neill, still in my absence things seem once again to have followed an outlandish path.
I would possibly be less distressed if I were not also so...confused.
Apparently, my good friend and warrior-brother Jack O'Neill has died.
Or disappeared. Or been kidnapped.
Or all three at once.
SG-1 is on temporary stand-down. When I approached General Hammond regarding the issue, I became alarmed for the state of his temper, since I well know what such immense swelling of blood vessels in a bald skull portends. No one has any coherent explanation of this event...except for DanielJackson. And his version of what occurred-given to me in confidence--is more baffling than no explanation whatsoever. Especially so, since I know that he does not lie.
His tale seemed to start in the middle, and at first I was filled with joy that O'Neill had finally admitted what he has felt for so long for our friend-blindingly obvious, to all but himself. Yet DanielJackson's happiness seems less than it should be, even given that the infirmary seemed an-eccentric-place to declare and then act upon one's feelings, even for O'Neill.
"He had to die before he could even admit it to HIMSELF, Teal'c! He had to turn into a VAMPIRE before he could say he cared about me! How sick is that?"
"That is indeed terrible," I assured him. We were at O'Neill's house, so the unusual volume of his declaration was not an issue. He has, I gathered, been staying here since O'Neill's disappearance. Or death. Or disincarnation. My understanding is that he has been paying both his and Colonel O'Neill's rents for the past few weeks, and this alarms me more than anything else. Slight mental impairment seems indicated.
"You're damn right 's terrible. Outrage. Bastard." He had gone from shouting to mumbling, and I took the opportunity to gently steer him back to the couch he kept leaping from at every new burst of energy and indignation. Despite his alarming paleness and visible loss of weight, there was a feverish vitality to him I considered neither healthy nor normal. It did not seem the result of an excess of caffeine.
He blinked at me then, and though no tears fell the look on his face was suddenly a grief to me. "Miss him, Teal'c," he barely whispered. "He said he'd come back. Bastard didn't say when."
I know enough of friendship now to sit beside him, in case he needs to be held or touched. He asked for neither, but the pain in his eyes seemed to lessen at my nearness.
"I, too, mourn O'Neill's absence." I kept my voice soothing, since I was still quite unsure of what I needed to ask. "Yet...it is all very strange."
"Strange, yeah, got that right..."
"General Hammond..." I pressed on, "indicated to me quite vocally, when I inquired, that none of the video cameras on base gave any information as to the...phenomena...which occurred when Colonel O'Neill...vanished...?"
"All stopped working when he flatlined." My friend's voice had turned strangely chilly, though very soft. "All over the base. Electronics went whacko...everywhere. I heard even the Stargate zoned out for an hour or so." He looked straight into my eyes and smiled, but bitterly. "And I conveniently passed out two seconds after Janet came roaring into the infirmary seeking whom she might devour. So I could pretend I didn't remember a thing." He hesitates. "You...you believe me, don't you, Teal'c?"
I was astounded he even needed to ask such a thing. "Of course I believe you, DanielJackson. O'Neill died, and then became a vampire. And then admitted he loved you. And then made love to you. And then..."
"Teal'c, Teal'c. Shut up. Teal'c. I'm sorry. Oh, God, it sounds even worse than I thought it did." His head was in his hands now, and I was grateful for this, since he was lightly banging it against the coffeetable.
I truly did not wish to distress him further, but there was one last question that needed to be asked if I were to have a full grasp of the situation. "Ah...DanielJackson?"
His sigh seemed to come from the depths of his very soul. "Yes, Teal'c? What more information can I possibly astound you with?"
"Ah...what...precisely...is a 'vampire?'"
