The rim of the champagne flute had been dipped in chocolate sauce, giving it a kiss of sweetness, in the flute itself was a dark rich chocolate coffee sorbet, a sumptuous, creamy and delectable mix of flavor. Sam wasn't finished yet, she had added a frothy layer of whipped cream giving this creation an almost parfait feel to it. The cream would separate the pureed raspberries from the coffee liqueur sorbet adding to the complex taste. Sam then added a thin layer of dark chocolate shavings and second layer of whipped cream to which she took a small cooking torch to the top so she could caramelize the whipped tufts not unlike a meringue pie. To get that effect she had added sugar to the cream, as well as sprinkled sugar over the top like a crème brule. This was topped off with yet another tiny layer of shavings of chocolate and finished with three whole raspberries.
As she was making the dessert Sam's mind drifted to thoughts of her lover. To her Janet always seemed to be filled with fervor, her large brown eyes always smoldered in passion, her lips always pursed in concentration when not pulled back into a mischievous smirk. Sam thought of the libidinous _expression her lover would carry after the height of their passionate celebrations.
"Sam!" Cassandra yelped as she took to jumping down the stairs four at a time, using the hand rail to guide her balance. "Oh wow it smells good!" the preteen commented as she came into the kitchen. Hazel eyes rested on blue, when she saw the dessert in the glass. "Mom is so going to love it." The girl moved about the stove and popped a raspberry into her mouth. "Can I have the rest of these?" the girl asked indicating the berries.
"I still need about three cups, but there is another basket in the fridge you can have if you want. Try them in cream its really good." Sam offered as a consolation.
"Like the cream you put into coffee?" Cassandra gave a decisive grimace.
"Well yeah, but its good. There's cream left over from the whipped cream I made."
"You made it? Why not get cool whip or that stuff in the can?" the teen quirked an eyebrow.
"Well, I wanted a homemade touch. I don't cook all that often, I'm not that good at it really, but hey I've jotted down notes from the food network, you know Ermil, Two Fat Ladies, Jamie Oliver, Wolfgang Puck, Iron Chef.....stuff like that plus all the cookbooks."
"Well mom will love it all the more because of all the work you put into it." Cassandra approved.
She started for the pot with the remnants of chocolate in it but her hand was grabbed by Sam's. "Ah, no can do Kiddo. It has chocolate liqueur in it."
"Booze?" the girl wrinkled her nose. "Aw man, I think it's ruined now."
"No. It's just for grown-ups." Sam smirked. She thought of the warm sweet tartness hitting Janet's tongue and the enjoyment the blonde would gain by just watching her beloved devour the dessert.
"I think you ruined it with booze," the child was firm in her opinion.
"Is that what you think?" Sam smirked. "Maybe I shouldn't tell you I have some chocolate saved over that doesn't have liqueur in it. Just for you."
Hazel eyes sparkled. "Really!"
"Yep. I set it aside just for you, Kiddo." Sam nodded with her head to a third champagne flute on the counter. It looked nearly identical to the others. "I set it there so I wouldn't get it mixed up with the others. It's virgin....no booze."
"YEAH!" Cassandra exclaimed taking the glass into her hand before heading for the silverware drawer to retrieve a long handled milkshake spoon. Without asking if she might, she started to dig into her decadent dessert. "Oh WOW! Sam this is great!" Cassie closed her eyes savoring the rich flavors that hit her tongue.
Sam let out a breath of relief. "Oh good! I was I have to admit a little worried. I can blow up a sun, but cooking....sometimes gets beyond my skills."
Cassie laughed.
"I have to admit I was a little concerned. I want to everything to be just right." Sam admitted.
"It will, Sam. It will. Even if it was a total flop Mom would still love it for all the trouble you went to, to try to make it happen. Way I see it..." The girl paused to plop another heavy spoonful of chocolate sorbet into her mouth. She shifted it into the pocket of her cheek so she could talk to her hero around the mouthful. "...you win either way."
The lanky blonde chuckled. "Thanks for the vote of confidence, Kiddo."
"So what else do you have planned?" Cassie asked.
"Well I can handle the dessert and I know I can make a mean soufflé. For dinner...well... I cheated a little I had a gourmet restaurant deliver. We'll start with garlic mushroom soup with crème fraische. A second course will be potzi wrapped around rice and steamed crab meat. Papaya and honey broth over boiled eggs and cheese cake then steamed, that all rest on papaya slices. It will be followed by braised roundels of lamb with redcurrant sauce, new potatoes baby carrots and baby sweetcorn, and sautéed in white wine sauce Portobello mushrooms, pearl onions and green beans, steamed asparagus, and artichoke hearts on a bed of wild rice," said Sam.
"She'll be stuffed." Cassie pointed out. "You sure she'll have room for this dessert?"
"Well all the portions are very small, I am sure."
"Mom has a tiny appetite." the girl further augured.
"I know which is why when I serve her plate, I'll split the restaurant portion for her in half. We can have the rest later." Sam said easily. "I want her to enjoy the sorbet."
Cassie looked at Sam with the earnest _expression of hope and wonder. "Sam?"
"Well now what's on your mind, Kiddo?" Sam looked up from under her unruly bangs that always seemed to be in her eyes, a smile on her face.
"You're... happiest when you're with Janet....with Mom. You should be together more often. I know you're busy and all with the Stargate and the labs, but you two should always be together."
With nothing further, the child got down off of her perch and skipped into the living room.
~~~
Janet pulled a long shift, SG3 had come back with a case of hives after eating the local cuisine Apparently the herbs and spices were not compatible with Tau'ri stomachs. SG12 limped home like wounded lions, banged up from a nasty encounter with Goa'uld under Heru'er's rule.
She was tired, and wanted nothing more than to climb into a hot shower and into a equally warm bed snuggled up to her Sammy-bear.
Running a hand across the back of her neck to knead out the knots forming there from stress, Fraiser headed to the elevators. She got there only to realize she had left her pass-key in her office.
'Damn it.' she grumbled sighing heavily as she turned back around and made her way back to her darkened office. There she snatched her pass card from the desk it was then her eyes fell upon a circled date on her desk top calendar; Feb 14 S/J 1st - A.
"Oh hell no!" slapped her hand against her forehead. "Oh, Sammy...I nearly forgot. I've been so busy." This near late hour most of Colorado Springs would have rolled up their sidewalks. Conveniences stores, Wal-mart and maybe the Albertson's grocery near her home would be open. And of course the liquor stores. But as far as getting Sam the gift she had wanted to, Janet knew she was out of luck and time. She wanted to get her love something special.
Feeling like the roles were reversed with her ex-husband by allowing time to slip away from her, Janet knew she had to somehow make it up to her beloved. Three years formally married to Richard the Sultan of Swill and Excuses, there was no way Janet was going to try to beg her way out of her absentmindedness.
Janet had intended a special gift for her lover. Well it was for Janet as well. Janet had made a stop at Victoria's Secrets. There she had intended to by a nice strapless black lace bra to go with a sheer silken black blouse but ended up buying a red and black negligee, and a matching black and red thong. She had also picked out identical black silk robes, one for herself the other a bit longer and a size larger for Sam. Janet wanted a personalized gift for Sam to unwrap, for the day hallmarked for love. Unfortunately what she wanted was in a catalog and had to be specially ordered. If it came to the house, Sam would be made aware of the sort of gift Janet had planned and so she had decided to pick it up at the store itself.
It had been ready three days ago but Janet hadn't found the time to go and fetch the sensual items.
Of course there had been a few other things she had discovered like heated massage oil but she had told the sales clerk she would simply collect the kit when she picked up the negligee.
Janet knew she couldn't go home completely empty handed. Feeling like she was giving Sam second best, the first stop was a liquor store twelve blocks from her house. She bought a bottle of champagne, and Godiva chocolates. Janet also picked up a dozen roses from a curbside vender hawking the flowers for last minute shoppers such as Janet herself.
Janet's dark eyes looked over at the pathetic offerings in the passenger seat, with a scowl. 'Isn't this typical - booze, flowers and chocolate on Valentine's day, how frigging original.' Janet chastised herself. 'This is crap Richard would have pulled.' Nearly giving up on her last minute gifts for the woman who meant everything to her, Janet paused in her tirade against herself as her hand brushed against a square lump in her coat pocket.
'Hello what's this?' Reaching into the depths of the pocket she withdrew a black velvet box about four inches long and an inch tall. A smile spread across the beautiful doctor's face - she had a gift after all.
Several months ago when Sam had been taken over by Jolinar, Sam had thought she had lost her silver banded watch. It was a delicate thing compared to the Casio standard issue she wore in the field. The watch was something special to Sam as it had been her mother's.
The heirloom had not been lost though it had been damaged. Janet had managed to salvage it and had taken it to a jewelers to get it repaired. It was perfect for Valentines' day which, which coincided with the ladies' first anniversary as a true couple with hopes of becoming married in the future.
Feeling far better about her other gifts, Janet trekked her way home. The chocolate, Janet would give to her daughter as something special. For a young child something like special chocolates from Mom would be wonderful gift.
The girl had an hour before she would be picked up by Daniel who was going to take her to the Cineplex for the evening. Of course Cassie was very happy that her best friend and her mom had found someone special to love in each other.
Sam heard the car pull up in the driveway, at that moment her heart thundered hard in her chest. Sam felt as if she were stepping through the wormhole for the first time. Overly stimulated, fascinated and extremely excited. The lanky blonde almost went into a panic that everything she had prepared would suddenly for some unexplainable unequivocal reason fail.
Looking around the room she saw the dozen of candles alight. Around their bases petals of roses, in a dozen different shades of reds and pinks. On the mantle of the fireplace sat a dozen more candles of deep red and around their base Sam had used white rose petals. Sandalwood incense oils burned in a small vauter floating in a crystal tureen. Dinner was placed on the dining room table along with red beeswax tapers that Sam only now light.
She was heading back to the kitchen to collect the White Zimphandel wine aware Janet had slipped into the house. But she wanted everything perfectly timed. It was more than difficult for the astrophysicist not to plan everything down to the smallest minute detail. It was in her nature. She was such chronic organizer that even her bookshelves were alphabetized and even shelved in accordance to the National Library of Congress.
Janet helped her loosen up... a little.
"Oh, Sam!" Janet breathed as she took in the sight before her. The candles, the heady soft erotic scent of sandalwood, the rich scent of gourmet food emanating from the dining room. The blonde looked back to the shy woman hovering near the threshold of the dining room and kitchen. Love and surprise reflecting in the mirrors of blue.
Sam found her lips curling into a warm smile. Knowing she had pleased her girl so far. She set the wine down on the counter behind her before she padded up to Janet, her hand reaching to stroke the softness of her cheek. "I wanted to do something special for...." Sam didn't get to finish, as her words were swallowed up by Janet's dominating lips upon her own.
The kiss conveyed everything Janet had felt for this wondrous woman before her. Coming home tired, dead on her feet, worn from the stress of the lab, the pace she had set for herself and her staff was nothing short of a marathon. The kiss became hungry and passionate.
Janet almost felt a pang of guilt creep into her heart for her sheer exhaustion. Yes the idea of the gift she had stowed away was refreshing because of the imagined reaction she thought her lover would display but the shorter woman was still weary from her long shift.
Once more Janet caught the scent of dinner and her stomach at that point decided to make itself heard. A case of giggles parted the lovers' passionate kiss. Snickering Sam rested her forehead against Janet's own. "I guess this is a good sign you're hungry."
"Starving actually." Janet confessed. She had skipped a meal as she often did. As a physician she of course knew better. But then again doctors made the worst patients.
"Come then my lady," Sam said offering her elbow that she might escort her Valentine to the dining area. "your dinner awaits."
Janet's smile broadened at the show of chivalry and took the arm. Sam had always been a closet romantic. She had to be when one of her most favorite movies though kept secrete was "Singing In The Rain." Of course it would take a Jaffa interrogation session for Sam to admit it to anyone but her family. Janet thought the whole idea was cute, even if her lanky lover professed she never did cute.
For her part the petite doctor was grateful that she had opted to take a shower at the Base and change into 'civvies' there, because putting a pause on the evening just to clean up would have ruined all the work and effort Sam had gone through for this night and it was nothing short of perfection.
But then perfection was something the tall beautiful scientist strove for. Sam demanded it of herself and whatever task she put herself to. It seemed to Janet a good way to burn out. But then again Janet had her own brand of demanding perfectionism and dedication which was equally unwavering.
Sam pulled out a chair for her lover feeling almost shy and self conscious about it. She would second guess the reaction she would receive. She never had to worry of course because Janet enjoyed the private game they played. Janet knew her lover would be a little nervous at the show of chivalry. She craned her neck and kissed Sam softly on the neck. "I love all of this. You are so incredible babe. I love you." Her next kiss was touched upon Sam's luscious rosy lips.
Janet inhaled deeply. "Everything smells divine, Sammy. God you've outdone yourself."
Sam felt her cheeks burn. "I didn't actually make it all. I....."
"Do you think that matters to me, Sweetheart? This is perfect." Janet leaned over her plate to steal yet another kiss from her lover. "You know you're spoiling me."
"I like to. You deserve it. Don't you know how much fun it is to do this?" Sam answered, still leaning into Janet's touch. The smaller woman's fingers traced Sam's delicate lips. The young doctor had always loved the touch of the satin softness, the eloquent lines of beauty found in the blonde's mouth. She was so very beautiful, so gorgeous, Janet found herself falling more and more in love with her younger beloved each passing moment.
"I love you too, Baby." Janet uttered quietly as she was loathe to break the spell of tender stillness that covered them as a blanket.
Sam deflected the attention from herself back to the meal. "Hon, we better dig in or it will get cold."
Janet winked as she turned her attention back to the plate of gourmet food offered to her.
Each morsel of food was savored as it hit the tongue. The flavors bursting with savory splendor.
"Oh my god!" Janet exclaimed. "Sam this is remarkable. Thank you for this."
Sam smiled shyly though she hadn't cooked the meal she had put all her effort into the dinner. She had order everything to specifics making sure the most out of each ingredient that went into each dish, to bring out the bouquet of scent and flavor, just as Janet liked it.
As for Janet, she was positive she had been sent to heaven with each mouthful.
Though each portion of the dishes were small it was just the right amount for the full effect of what Sam had intended. Of course the coup-de-grace was the chocolate coffee sorbet.
When Sam had slipped from the table Janet didn't know what to expect. How could anything top the meal she had just devoured? Potzi wrapped around rice and steamed crab meat. Papaya broth over boiled eggs and cheese cake that had been steamed and rested honeyed papaya slices. Portobello mushrooms pearl onions and green beans sautéed in white wine sauce, steamed asparagus, and artichoke hearts on a bed of wild rice. It was to Janet superb. All of it a treat.
The blonde reappeared carrying the sorbet in identical flutes to the ones they had been using to drinking the champagne Janet had brought home.
"Oh my! What have you done?" Janet's eyes widened.
Sam smiled in a full blown Cheshire full toothed grin. "What's Valentines' Day without chocolate?" She placed the dessert in front of her lover.
"You made this?" Janet asked, though knowing the answer.
"I can make a mean souffle as you know. And apparently I can make a sorbet." to prove her point Sam dipped her spoon into Janet's glass and brought the morsel of rich dessert to the woman's mouth.
Slowly Janet opened her mouth and wrapped her lips around the creamed chocolate coffee. The flavors exploded in Janet's mouth, coffee, chocolate, whipped cream and liqueur melding into one another, causing her moan in her delight. Brown eyes widened in amazement. "Oh Sam! Oh WOW!" Janet exclaimed savoring the sensations in her mouth. "Wow!" she couldn't help but repeat herself.
The redhead dipped her own spoon in and lapped the delight to her mouth. Nothing short of the taste of her own beloved intoxicated or captivated her so. The reaction was so intense Janet felt her entire being fighting the urge to dive right in.
"Chocolate orgasm." Janet said as another spoonful was devoured. "That's what you should call this miracle."
Sam blushed, her lips slipping into a smiled. "That good ehe?"
"God yes!" Janet nodded vigorously.
"Better than deep breakfast?" Sam asked.
"Damn near almost." Janet cooed. "But I'm particular to my peach flavored Sammy best." Peach of course was the flavor Janet acquainted with Sam. Tart, tangy, and a bit sweet. One of her favorite flavors. "But......" she dragged an exaggerated breath almost like a purr. "Chocolate Orgasm is nearly as good."
The lanky blonde laughed softly as she stole a kiss from her beloved. "I am glad you approve, my butterscotch girl." The nickname Sam had dubbed Janet in a very secret, very private way. To Sam, Janet's most secret nectar tasted of butterscotch. A flavor Sam adored.
The meal finished, Janet took hold of Sam's hand not allowing her to gather the dishes. "For once let them stay until the morning." the doctor said wanting to have Sam all to herself and not pause for a menial task that could indeed wait.
"We could just bring them into the kitchen." Sam hinted causing Janet to smile. "Nothing more."
"Never change baby." the smaller woman stacked the plates and gathered the silverware, napkins leaving the glasses for Sam to collect. All of which would be placed in the sink for the morning.
Placing a kiss on the taller woman's nose, Janet whispered, "I know you would have never relaxed knowing there was a mess."
"Guilty as charged." Sam shrugged.
"Good thing I love you." While they were talking, Janet dipped her two fingers into Sam's dark purple silk shirt, (a color the blonde had worn knowing that it was smaller woman's favorite color) and pulled her into the livingroom. Sam willingly followed as if Janet was the pied piper.
"I loved this evening, Sammy-bear... everything you did for me was so perfect, so wonderfully thoughtful. You really know how to make a person feel special."
"You are special, Janet." Sam quibbled. "I'd be lost without you."
"I know the feeling." Janet responded. Now in the livingroom Janet maneuvered the taller woman towards the sofa where she pushed Sam down so that she could straddle the blonde's lap. Her lips tasting Sam's both enjoying the lingering taste of chocolate coffee and liqueur. Sam's arms immediately went around the slight frame of the woman she loved pulling her into a tight embrace. But she was almost disappointed when Janet pulled away from her grasp.
"Wait......" Janet's voice was an octave lower, she knew her eyes had darkened nearly black as had Sam's own blue eyes. "Wait....my turn."
"Come again?" Sam frowned.
"Oh not to worry Sam, you will. By the end of the night several times, I am betting."
The blonde chortled, "Well, I walked right into that one." she was blushing brightly.
Both went into fits of laughter. "You always blunder into my puny landmines."
In answer Sam stuck her tongue out and blew a raspberry.
Janet rose her eyebrows up and down, then exaggerated a kissing face. "Sooo sexy."
Sam rose off the couch Janet had pushed her onto, and made to chase after her lover. "I'll show you sexy, my Energizer Bunny!" Sam's colt legs easily out paced the smaller woman's gait. Janet squealed and the blonde's arms went around her and started to hoist her up over her shoulders as a sack of grain.
"SAM!" Janet yelped, she had just enough time to snatch her coat from the hallway coatrack before Sam started to haul her up the flight of stairs. "SAM!"
"GEERR!" Sam mocked her long time ago neanderthal self.
"Oh Cavewoman Sam, now that brings back memories." Janet burst out laughing from her upside down position. Though she loved the view of Sam's very tight backside.
"Want you." Sam grunted trying so desperately hard not to give a way to her giggles, or she would lose her grip on her precious cargo.
It didn't work.
They managed to reach the very top of the stairs before Sam buckled under the weight of her own laughter that had also infected Janet. Both holding their sides out of breath laughing so hard tears began to form in the corners of their eyes.
Before Sam could move, Janet was sitting on top of her once more. "Okay I get to play cavewoman." Janet kissed Sam's nose. "Fire bad, blonde good."
Sam snorted as she laughed which only added to the hysteria. By this time neither one knew what they were laughing at. Only the sound kept them going. "God Sammy breath before you hypervent..ventilate."
"Oh! Bad thing. Mouth to mouth!" Sam snickered then feigned that she had passed out, her arms spread eagle, her body still.
Janet leaned over covering Sam's mouth with her own. Instead of giving her breath to her lover Janet darted her tongue into the warm cavern tracing the edge of ivory. Sam moaned, her thigh raising just slightly hitting encouraging Janet to deepen her kiss. The friction between Sam's thigh against the seam of her jeans into her clit caused the smaller woman to gasp a moan.
"Chocolate orgasm...." Sam whispered. "Nowhere as good as the real thing." tiny kisses along Janet's mouth, little nips to her lips, had Janet trembling in want.
Again she pulled back.
Sam let out groan of frustration.
"Sammy, I promise god do I promise.....but I want to do this first." Janet managed to catch her breath and lift the sensual fog that misted within her mind. "Please."
That was all it took. Sam pulled herself control back into play, she would do anything for her love, even if it meant to still her more than libidinous fires. "Okay baby, what ever you want." her hand reached to touch Janet's satin smooth cheek which was as flush as the orange silk shirt she had worn for Sam, knowing she loved that hue above all others.
Janet reached into the coat that was now lying beside them and pulled out the blue velvet case. "It's um....not exactly what you think." she explained as she presented her gift to her heart.
Sam of course immediately thought she had not bought Janet an extravagant gift and that the dinner was a poor consolation prize. But in hearing Janet's words the self berating stilled. Hands shaking, Sam opened the case far too curious to see what lay within, and too nervous to wait for an explanation.
When she opened it up, her large doe blue eyes widened further. Her hand covered her mouth as her breath escaped in a gasp of disbelief. Azure eyes glazed over with unshed tears.
"Oh Janet!" Reverently Sam removed her mother's watch from the case. No longer lost, no longer broken, Sam had her treasure restored to her. "Oh Janet ....how..how did you find it? I thought it lost. Gone."
"I know baby. I know." Janet gathered Sam into her arms and simply held her. "It was found in the infirmary. Jolinar must have tapped into your mind because you were wearing it when the Ashrak attacked and tried to murder you. It was only after you were stabilized that I would even move from your side. I found it in the corridors along a wall it must have slipped from your wrist when I was trying to resuscitate you. I recognized it immediately as yours. I took it to a jewelers and had them repair it for you."
Sam was dumfounded. She continued to star at the watch holding it close. She wore it off duty and when on the Base otherwise it was the standard issue Casio the rest of SG1 wore when off world. The simple silver watch had been her mother's given to her by Jacob during their first Valentine's day as a married couple.
Now Janet, Sam's own beloved was giving it to her on Valentine's day, their first as a true committed couple.
"I love you. I LOVE YOU. I love you." Sam uttered over and over holding Janet's tinier frame to her own lean body. "I love you."
Janet took the watch from the still shaking hands and placed it back home on Sam's wrist. "I love you too, my peach flavored Sammy-Bear. Forever. You're my something special. Always will be."
