Summary: Jack's recovering and he's not happy to discover the absence of Daniel

"He went WHERE?" Jack half yelled, well what could be considered a half yell for him as he could barely speak. "I think you should just read the letter Sir, I'm sure Daniel explained it all in there." Sam Carter told her CO as she handed him the pristine envelope containing a letter from Daniel that Jack O'Neill had refused to read for the past two days since waking from a coma.

"Damn letters, can't he ever tell me anything important to my face?" Jack grumbled, and Sam knew what he meant, Daniel had told her what was in the letter when he first gave it to her in the event he should be killed. "With all due respect Sir, No I don't think he can. Perhaps because you give him little reason to think you'd have anything but contempt for his feelings....Sir!" she added the last Sir as an after thought.

Jack was flabbergasted, Carter really spoke to him like that, funny thing was, he agreed with her. He'd screwed up, not once, or twice but every damn time he'd had the chance to be honest with Daniel he'd done the opposite and made him believe he didn't care about him, "Ah shit, come on Carter, I'm career Military, you know the rules." he said his head hanging low. Cater softened a little, "Yes Sir, but what you have to ask is, are the rules as important as Daniel?" she told him turning around and walking out, leaving him alone with the letter, and a headache.

What the hell Jack thought opening the envelope to read what was in side

Dear Jack...

fuckfuckfuckfucketyfuckfuckFUCK! the mantra ran though Jack's head, Daniel really believed he'd hate him, that the friendship they had would be over and that Jack couldn't love him back. "For a smart man you can be awfully dense" Jack said aloud almost as if Daniel were in the room. "What's up Colonel?" Janet Frasier asked coming into the infirmary to check on her only present patient, "Nothing at all Doc, just a little self musing, when can I bust this joint?" he asked, he'd only been awake for two days, but he needed out of here, Now.

Janet shook her head, "Don't even think it Colonel, your gonna be here at least another week, probably more, knowing your tendency to be a bad patient." Janet told him, Jacks face fell, "Oh come on Doc" he begged slightly. "No Colonel, the bullet could have killed you given another inch or so, One week and that's if you behave." she told him sternly, for five foot nothing that little lady was very scary when she wanted to be.

Jack sighed and fell back on the bed, "Can I at least have a pen and some paper, oh and an envelope?" he asked, he knew how to write letters as well, although he wasn't gonna do it quite the same, he had something to tell Daniel face to face, not in a dam letter. Janet nodded, "Tomorrow." she said leaving before he had chance to argue, then slipping her head back around the door, "And Colonel, that's only if you rest today, so sleep. Now!" she ordered before disappearing again.

Great idea Doc. You try sleeping after you just found out your best friend, of the same sex, is in love with you. he thought closing his eyes to at least attempt to sleep, and he did manage it, even if it was a restless sleep. As promised the pen, paper and envelope were delivered the next day and Jack spent the next three days writing one letter, it wasn't easy that was for sure, but eventually, he was released from the Infirmary, even if he had to stay on base, with one finish letter, addressed to Doctor Daniel Jackson, Abydos.

Two Weeks Later

"Well Doc, can I go back on duty now?" Jack asked his voice full of hope that she'd say yes, a hope that was for filled when she nodded her head "Yes Colonel you may return to full duty, but take it easy anyway" she told him, shock covering her features when he jumped of the bed and hugged her, "Great, thanks Doc, General permission to go to Abydos?" he asked the also slightly shocked looking General to the side of Janet. "Colonel I can't let you do that" Hammond said, "Dr Jackson asked that you not be allowed to follow him there and I promised him that I wouldn't let you though the gate." he said slightly sadly.

Jack looked ill for all of ten seconds, "Sir with all due respect at the time Daniel was under an emotional strain and further more if you don't let me go after him and bring him home where he belongs I will resign, and need I remind you that several races, including the Asguard will only deal with me." Jack said his voice controlled and respectful even as he made the unspoken threat.

General Hammond didn't speak and for a moment Jack thought he was gonna end up in the brig, "Bring him home Jack." he said smiling a little, "And I mean walking not being dragged behind you." he added. Jack smiled, "Yes Sir, when can I leave?" he asked, "How soon can SG-1 be kitted up?" Hammond asked, but Jack stopped him, "With all due respect General. No. I can be ready in two minutes, but Carter and Teal'c don't need to be there, in fact, I think its better if they aren't." Jack told him, noticing the looks that passed over the faces in the room, but Hammond let it go, "See you in the Gate Room in a few minutes Colonel" Hammond said and they all headed in different directions.

Abydos - about five minutes later

"O'Neill!" Skarra called happily when he saw Jack come through the horizon, hugging the other man without thought, glad when Jack returned the embrace, "Dan-yel said you would not be coming again" the young man said as he half dragged O'Neill down from the Gate. "I wasn't suppose to be, at least not if Daniel had his way." Jack said, Skarra nodded, "I see, he is most stubborn, it took him many nights of being here to admit why he had run from his home." Skarra said.

"O'Neill you have not come to hurt Dan-yel as he feared, have you?" he asked with the innocence that was shocking given his time as a Goa'uld host, "No Skarra I haven't, I've come to bring him home with me, where he belongs." Jack smiled as recognition dawned on the boys face "Good O'Neill, Daniel is not happy here, with you he will be happy, it is as my sister would have wished" he said smiling, or grinning more accurately up at the older man.

"Skarra, can you take this to Daniel?" he asked producing the letter, "I doubt he'll be happy with it but I need you to trust me, I am here to take Daniel home, but I can't let him know that just yet, can you understand?" he asked noting the Abydonians slightly perplexed expression. Skarra smiled, "Not really O'Neill, but I trust you to make Dan-yel happy, I will take the letter." he said taking the letter "You will wait here?" Skarra asked leaving at Jacks nod. Jack sat on the steps by the gate, looking around to the five men guarding the structure before looking down at the dusty steps, using his fingers to trace various patterns.
