Summary: Daniel gets a surprise

Infirmary - Thursday April 3rd 2003 - 1759hrs

Colonel Jack O'Neill was pacing, and not just the normal 'My pet Archaeologist nearly got himself killed AGAIN!' pace, but rather a 'My Pet Archaeologist nearly got himself killed AGAIN! And he has one hell of a lot of explaining to do' pace.

Flashback - Thursday April 3rd 2003 - 1736hrs

"How's our boy Doctor?" General George Hammond asked entering the infirmary a step behind his second in command, and the rest of the SG-1 team, except for one Dr Daniel Jackson.

"Well Sir his injuries weren't too bad, Lya and her friends did I very good job of healing him but..." Doctor Janet Fraiser paused.

"Doc? But?" Jack asked.

"Well it seems that Daniel has developed a rather em... strange medical condition." Janet said.

"Can you treat him Doctor?" Hammond asked.

"Well yes, I've treated this condition before, but never in someone like Doctor Jackson, so I suppose I'm not sure that normal 'treatments' as such would work." Janet said.

"What exactly is wrong with him Doc? He looks fine to me." Jack said.

Daniel had been standing just behind Janet listening the whole time, perplexed.

"Janet?" he asked her, she hadn't mentioned to him that anything was wrong.

"Em... well Sir you see... it appears Daniel is em..." Janet paused again.

Hammond was losing patience.

"Doctor?" he asked again, his voice showing his lack of patience.

"Daniel is pregnant Sir." Janet finally admitted.

Several sets of surprised eyes flickered between Daniel and Janet, and back to Daniel just in time to see the Archaeologist pass out cold on the floor.

Present Time

"Colonel calm down, Daniel won't wake up any quicker because your pacing like a mad man," Janet ordered, her 'I'm a doctor with big sharp needles, so do as I say' voice in play.

"How... just HOW the hell did Daniel manage this I mean really, there are limits to things, and this has to be way past at least half of them." Jack said, his pacing slowing just slightly.

"Colonel, I'm sure Daniel didn't mean to get em..." Sam Carter, Jack's second in command couldn't quite get the word past her throat.

"Up the duff?" Jack helpfully supplied, sarcastically.

"Well yes." Sam said.

"Up the duff?" Teal'c the team's fourth member of SG-1 intoned confused.

"It means pregnant Teal'c, it's sorta slang," Jack told him, so use to explaining things to their alien friend that it barely registered that he was doing it.

"Indeed then I do not believe it was DanielJackson's intention to get... 'Up the duff'." Teal'c said, attempting to use the phrase in context, it didn't quite work for him.

"I know that Teal'c, but it still doesn't explain HOW. I mean if those aliens did it... which is the only way I can think of it could have happened, then they must have..." Jack couldn't use the word rape, but it hung in the air like a bad smell.

"We could be dealing with an alien child then." Sam said, her mind switching away from the painful possibilities of how Daniel might have gotten into this condition and to the logical outcomes of the situation.

"Maybe." Janet said.

"But there were no signs of sexual assault, and although I can't be sure until the foetus is older, well I'm not sure it could be an alien child, the chances of a conception would be almost nil, from the information the Tokra were able to give on their physiology, I don't think they could have impregnated a human being, even if it had been a female." Janet explained.

A moan from the bed interrupted them as Daniel came around.

"Daniel?" Janet asked softly, moving over beside the bed.

"Janet... what happened?" he asked, confused, unfocused eyes searching around seeing the somewhat blurry visions of his friends.

"You fainted." She told him, taking his arm to check his pulse.

"I was... you said... tell me I was dreaming." Daniel pleaded.

"Sorry Daniel." Janet shook her head.

Daniel closed his eyes, his forehead creasing as he tried to will away the whole situation.

"Daniel. I hate to ask this but... did they... while you were there... did any of the aliens..." Janet hated herself for asking this, but she knew she had to "...assault you, in anyway?" she asked.

"They didn't rape me Janet," Daniel said, opening his eyes again, blinking furiously to try and clear his vision, just as Jack appeared and put his glasses on for him.

"Thanks." Daniel said, looking up at his friend.

"You went and done it this time didn't you Danny boy." Jack said, shaking his head.

Daniel looked so confused and vulnerable lying on the bed like that; Jack couldn't help but feel for him, even if they hadn't been best friends for years.

"Sorry Jack." Daniel said, his eyes cast down towards his own feet.

"Not your fault Danny, we'll figure it all out, don't you worry." Jack promised, his hand resting on his friends shoulder, a small comfort at best, but it was something at least.

"Daniel you'll have to stay on base for a few days, I want to keep an eye on you, but then if everything is ok I'll release you, for now." Janet said.

"For now?" Daniel asked, not liking the sound of that.

"Doctor Jackson, sooner or later you're going to start showing, and we can't have a pregnant man running around Colorado Springs." Hammond said.

They'd already talked about it while Daniel was out, and it would be too dangerous to have a pregnant man running around outside. For one, people would notice and start to get suspicious, and for another if someone kidnapped Daniel while he was pregnant he wouldn't be able to defend himself.

"I'm not going to be allowed off world am I?" Daniel said, his body sagging.

"I'm afraid not son, it's too risky." Hammond said, genuinely feeling sorry for Daniel.

"And when I start showing, I won't be allowed of base either." Daniel said.

"No." Hammond conceded, with a nod.

"Can I be alone please?" Daniel asked.

"Of course son, you can contact me if you want anything." Hammond said, motioning the others out of the room, all except Jack who shook his head, refusing to leave.

"Jack please, I just want to be alone to think for a while." Daniel pleaded with his friend.

"Nope, you want to think, well think away, I'll sit right over here, as quiet as a mouse, but I'm going no where." Jack said, pulling up a chair against the far wall, and sitting down on it.

1629hrs

"Jack..." Daniel turned to look at his friend after a few moments of silence.

"What?" Jack asked not moving from his seat.

"I can't do this." Daniel half whispered, and even from where he was sitting Jack could see the tears glistening in Daniel's eyes.

Jack pulled his chair over beside the bed, grabbing Daniel's arm.

"It'll be ok Danny, somehow, I don't know how but it will be. Your one of the strongest, bravest men I have ever met, I've seen Special Ops guys who would crumble under even half the things you've been through and they were trained for it. You can do this, and your not gonna be on your own, cause I'm gonna be here every step of the way." Jack promised, holding Daniel's arm tightly, and pulling his friend closer into a hug as Daniel gave in a cried.

2153hrs

Daniel was sleeping peacefully and had been for over and hour, but he refused to let go of Jack's arm, which he had firmly lodged under his weight.

"Sir?" Jack heard Sam's voice from the side of him.

"Shush, he's asleep," Jack warned, trying carefully to pull his arm away from Daniel without waking him, and finally on the third try succeeding as Daniel rolled onto his other side.

Jack motioned her outside, standing still in line of site in case Daniel woke up again.

"How is he?" Sam asked.

"He's pregnant Carter, how do you think he is." Jack snapped a little, before shaking himself and apologising.

"Sorry. He's confused, scared, maybe a little pissed off, hell you know Daniel, he doesn't like to admit when he is hurting." Jack told her.

"I know. General Hammond called the Tokra, there sending Dad, apparently Selmak knows quite a lot about these aliens, she might be able to explain this all." Sam said.

"Good." Was Jack's only reply, his eyes flickering back to Daniel as he shifted in his sleep.

"Carter, can you stay with him for a few minutes? I need to go see General Hammond." Jack said, waiting for a nod from Sam before he headed to find his CO.

General Hammond's Office - 2201hrs

"Ahh Colonel." Hammond greeted as Jack knocked on the open door, entering without really waiting for permission.

"How is Doctor Jackson?" he asked.

"Sleeping Sir, he's pretty shaken up." Jack answered.

"What can I do for you?" Hammond asked, a strange feeling that he wasn't going to like whatever it was Jack had to say.

"I'd like you to put Major Carter in command of SG-1 Sir, temporarily, possibly permanently." Jack told him.

"Jack...?" Hammond asked, confused.

"Daniel needs me right now General, he's confused, and afraid, and he feels like he's on his own, well he isn't, and I don't intend to let him be." Jack responded.

He knew he was getting very close to 'don't ask, don't tell' here, but in all honesty there was nothing to ask or tell about, not that Jack would be against that idea, but right now Daniel needed someone, and Jack was determined to be that someone, after all, what were best friends for.

"Jack... maybe you should give it some time, I'll put SG-1 onto stand-by, in a few weeks, when Daniel gets more use to the situation..." Hammond tried to say, but Jack wasn't listening.

"I'll retire if I have to." Jack said, his face serious.

"All right Jack, you win." Hammond conceded. It was better to keep Jack around even if it was on world, that to lose him altogether.

"Thank-you Sir." Jack said, and he meant it.

"Jack... I know... be careful, please." Hammond said.

Jack knew what he meant. He knew how Jack felt about Daniel. Well at least he wasn't arresting him and having him dishonourably discharged, but then George never was that sorta guy.

Gate room - Friday April 4th - 0841hrs

"Hey Dad." Sam greeted her father as he came down the ramp giving him a quick hug.

"Hey Sammy. How's Daniel?" Jacob Carter asked.

"He's handling it pretty well I guess, Colonel O'Neill has barely left his side." Sam told her Dad.

"Mother Hen." Jacob joked. It was an old joke; everyone knew that Jack was the perpetual mother hen when it came to his 'kids' as he called his team.

Sam laughed, and nodded.

Infirmary - Friday 4th April - 0845hrs

"Daniel, how did you manage this one?" Jacob asked, with a smile, as he entered the infirmary to see Daniel sitting up in bed, Jack sitting on the chair beside him a chessboard between then, and Daniel was wining.

"Ain't that the $64,000 question," Jack said, "personally I blame myself, I know I should have given that talk on 'sex education when dealing with alien beings' last week, but I put it of and now..." Jack added, laughing.

"It's not like I did it on purpose." Daniel mock groused, laughing himself.

"Daniel you never cease to amaze me, the first human male to ever get pregnant, and you still manage to joke about it." Jacob said, setting down his bag and pulling out several small pieces of medical tech.

"I'm going to put this against your stomach where the foetus has started to develop, according to Doctor Fraiser, it's only a few days old, so I can't say how accurate all this will be, but it should be pretty accurate." Jacob told him, pulling back his blanket a little and laying a small triangular device on his stomach.

"It'll take a few minutes to gather all the readings." Jacob said.

"Do you know how he could have gotten impregnated?" Janet asked.

"The Fremanza aren't like humans, almost all of there society is homosexual, with this in mind they've developed methods to impregnate males so that they could get rid of what they called 'Granhona Season' it literally means breeding season."

"Two couples, would get together, and mate, with each other, until both the females were pregnant, and then one of the children would stay with the mothers, and the other with the fathers, it was common until a little over 100years ago when they found away to make it possible for men to carry children, and they've since refined it so that women aren't needed at all, two men can have a child through a process of genetic splicing, and dicing, it's all very complicated, really quite an ingenious method."

Selmak had taken over to explain everything.

"It's strange I know, but it is how they do things, with that in mind, I doubt that Doctor Jackson's child is alien, but more likely completely human, Janet you were right when you said their physiology didn't lead to cross-breeding with a human. More likely I would say that they used DNA from either Colonel O'Neill or Major Carter, but due to Major Carter's time with Jolenar, I would say that Colonel O'Neill is the most likely suspect." Selmak said.

"Me?" Jack said, his voice more than a pitch or two above normal.

Before Selmak could respond the device on Daniel's stomach beeped.

"The scans are complete, I did take the liberty of setting it for a DNA scan as well, and I do have your DNA on record Colonel so we will know in a moment." Selmak said, taking the board with the scanned results and showing it to Doctor Fraiser.

"Janet?" Daniel asked, speaking for the first time in several minutes.

"It's a fully human foetus Daniel, and it looks very healthy." Janet assured him, her eyes still flickering over the results.

"Doc?" Jack said at last, his voice mostly normal again.

"It looks like Selmak was right Colonel, the DNA of the foetus does match Daniel's, and yours." Janet answered, and suddenly Jack was very glad he was sitting down.

Jacob had taken over again, watching all that was going on, several shocked faces around the room, from Daniel and Jack to General Hammond and Teal'c.

"So..." Jack half whistled.

"I guess we're going to be Dad's," he said to Daniel, his face still shocked, but the idea becoming less and less disturbing very quickly.

"I guess." Daniel said, his face still a little pale from the shock.

Saturday April 5th 2003 - 0912hrs

"Janet please?" Daniel begged again, puppy dog eyes at full force.

"I'll be with Jack the whole time. Please" he pleaded.

"Alright, alright." Janet said finally. Daniel had been awake for over two hours and had spent most of that time pleading to be let free.

"Thank-you." Daniel cooed appreciatively, giving Janet a hug.

"Oh go and get dressed." Janet ordered with a smile, even as she acted annoyed.

"Ma'am yes Ma'am." Daniel beat out, mock saluting her on his way to the bathroom with the clothes he'd had Jack bring to him this morning.

Jack stood watching all this with a grin. Only Daniel could ever get around Janet like that.

In the last seventy-two hours, they been nearly killed, Daniel had found out he was pregnant, and Jack was apparently the 'father'.

And strangely enough, it was a slow week for the SGC.

Jack O'Neill's house - 1324hrs

"You hungry?" Jack asked Daniel as they sat half watch the TV.

"A little." Daniel admitted, rubbing his stomach as it chose that moment to growl.

"Pasta ok?" Jack questioned as he got up heading for the kitchen.

"Fine." Daniel agreed following him.

"You know Daniel, I think I can manage pasta all by myself." Jack said.

"I know, I just... what are we going to do Jack?" Daniel asked, flopping against the bench in Jack's kitchen.

"What'd ya mean?" Jack asked him, pulling a pan from the cupboard.

"I mean about this baby. How do we explain it, I mean if I was a women, that would be easier, but I'm not, and..." Jack cut him off.

"Daniel relax. We'll be fine, look I have three bed rooms, we can make on into a nursery, the other for you, and it'll be fine." Jack said.

"Your in the military Jack, now I know, and you know that there is nothing going on between us but if we're living together, even with separate bedrooms, people will try and use that against you." Daniel said.

"Daniel, by the time we arrive at work on Monday I can almost guarantee that every single person at the SGC will know about this already, no one will think anything. Hammond has spoken to the President; NID won't be able to touch us, not without outing the whole program, and they won't do that." Jack tried to assure him.

"I hope your right." Daniel sighed.

"This is all so screwed up." Daniel said, his eyes watering again.

"Come here." Jack said, pulling him into a hug, rubbing slow circles on his back to calm him.

"God Jack look at me, I've been pregnant less than a week and already my hormones are more fucked up than a whore on a twenty-four hour bender." Daniel cursed himself.

"It's to be expected Danny, it'll get better." Jack told him, knowing it was a lie.

It would only get worse. Daniel would get more hormonal, and temperamental as time went on. He'd gain weight, get aches all over, have craving for the most horribly disgusting types of food you could ever imagine and he'd blame Jack every single second, of every single day, even though it wasn't Jack's fault.

Monday April 14th 2003 - 0830hrs

Jack listened outside the bathroom door as Daniel hurled up another breakfast and probably most of last nights dinner as well.

He'd only been pregnant for a couple of weeks, but already morning sickness had set in with a vengeance. Infact it wasn't so much morning sickness, as 24/7 sickness.

Daniel traipsed out of the bathroom, shooting daggers at Jack with his eyes, like it was his entire fault, and headed straight for the coffee pot.

Janet had insisted he cut down the coffee to no more than five cups a day, and soon that would have to go down as well. Daniel was not a happy man. But he took what he could get, and bitched at Jack about what he couldn't.

"Daniel." Jack tested the waters before he said anything more.

"What!" Daniel snapped, at him."Never mind." Jack said, turning to head to his room and finish getting ready for work.

"Would you stop doing that." Daniel snapped again.

"Say whatever it is already." He insisted.

"It doesn't matter Daniel, I just wanted to ask how you're feeling, but I guess it's a pretty dumb question." Jack said.

"Fucking right it is." Daniel cursed, rinsing his mug and setting it on the side to dry.

"Sorry." Jack murmured a little before going to get dressed.

Friday June 6th 2003 - 1716hrs

"Jack!" Daniel shouted for the fifth time as Jack came belting out of the bathroom a towel wrapped around his waist, water dripping all over the floor.

"What?" Jack asked, worried.

"Can you get me the copy of Keller's Greek Mythology from the top shelf please? My back hurts." Daniel said, his baby blue eyes looking so innocent as he was flopped against several cushions on the sofa, two or three books scattered over his lap.

Jack bit his tongue; he knew Daniel had a sore back, and he couldn't blame him, at two months pregnant, Daniel had already started to put on a little weight.

Soon they were gonna have to move into the mountain permanently, but at least Hammond had arranged two VIP suites to be turned into a mini apartment, a door between the two on the inside, a small kitchen area, a TV, and a few other home comforts.

But, and it was a big BUT, that didn't give Daniel reason to shout down the house, and send Jack into a panic because he needed a BOOK!

Jack got the book anyway, and gave it to Daniel, with a smile before going to dry off, ignoring the thank-you that Daniel called after him.

1930hrs

"Daniel hurry up." Jack called again, they had to be at the mountain by 2030, and Daniel was still getting changed.

"I'm nearly ready." Daniel shouted back, again.

"You said that ten minutes ago." Jack said, pushing open Daniel's bedroom door, to find Daniel sitting topless on the bed, a pair of sweats on, and several shirts and pairs of trousers scattered around the floor.

"What are you doing?" Jack asked.

"Nothing fits, and what does makes me look fat." Daniel complained, tossing another shirt onto the pile on the floor.

"Daniel it doesn't matter, just find something that fits and put it on." Jack said.

"It does matter. God I am only two months pregnant, I'm gonna be huge by the end of this." Daniel grouched.

"Daniel. Your pregnant, it's normal." Jack said.

"I'm fat." Daniel said.

"Your not fat, you are pregnant." Jack told him, sitting down beside him.

"I must look terrible," Daniel said, tears falling from his watery blue eyes. Jack pulled Daniel into a hug, holding him tightly.

"You don't look terrible Danny, you look great." Jack said, trying to comfort him, and not really paying attention to what he was saying.

"Really?" Daniel asked, his voice muffled in Jack's neck.

"Hottest pregnant guy in fifty states." Jack said, hugging him a little tighter before getting up.

"Be right back." Jack said, popping into his on room.

He had been intending to leave it for a few more weeks, but he'd bought Daniel some new clothes, a size bigger than normal, and that included a new suit.

"Here ya go." Jack offered Daniel the blue suit, and white shirt, hoping that Daniel wouldn't take it the wrong way.

Daniel didn't, thankfully get upset again, instead he nodded and turned to get into the suit.

Jack left him to it, smiling when finally a few minutes later Daniel appeared in his new suit.

"Thanks Jack." He said, smiling a little himself.

"Come on, I promised General Hammond we'd be there a few minutes early, he wants to talk to us." Jack said, grabbing Daniel's jacket as well as his own on the way out the door.

2020hrs

"General" Jack greeted with a nod as he and Daniel arrived in the briefing room.

"I just wanted to talk to you both for a few moments first. According to Doctor Fraiser your pregnancy is moving faster than is normal, well with a women at least." Hammond said, looking at Daniel.

"Well yes I guess it is." Daniel agreed.

"Well I think it might be a good idea to move you into the mountain a little sooner than planned." Hammond said.

Daniel's shoulders sagged.

"General. Daniel hasn't put on a lot of weight yet, just a little, couldn't we leave it just a few more weeks?" Jack asked, knowing Daniel wasn't looking forward to being stuck in the mountain for several months.

"I suppose so. But you won't be able to keep it hidden for much long." Hammond said, conceding Jack's point, it could wait a few more weeks.

Monday June 8th 2003 - 0600hrs

"Jack! Wake Up" Daniel said, shaking Jack again.

"Uh. Daniel it's 0600, what could you possibly want?" Jack asked, rolling over to face Daniel, sleepy brown eyes focusing on the face before him.

"We need to get the nursery ready." Daniel said.

"Daniel, it is 0600hrs, and besides it's months before the baby is due." Jack replied, not fully willing to be awake yet after Daniel had kept him up to 0100.

"Jaaack, I want it done before I have to move into the mountain, PLEASE?" Daniel moaned, playing the watery baby blues card until Jack gave in and pushed himself up, shaking himself away.

"I hate you." Jack groused.

0830hrs

"Daniel we have been looking at these samples for over an hour, pick on already." Jack said, rubbing his eyes to clear the fuzz.

"I can't decide between the green and the yellow, they are both nice." Daniel said, flicking between the two choices again.

"Daniel. Pick One." Jack ordered.

"Ok, the yellow, definitely the yellow." Daniel said.

Jack sighed in relief, finally.

"Maybe the green..." Daniel went to say, but Jack put a hand over his mouth.

"Yellow Daniel. Yellow." Jack told him, waiting until Daniel nodded before letting go.

"Good. Now lets get ready, and we can go shopping, get the things we need and get to work, before you try and change your mind again." Jack said, getting up to go and get dressed, since he hadn't bothered this morning when Daniel had woke him up.

1130hrs

"Daniel, for cryin' out loud, would ya pick one already, we haven't got all year." Jack was losing patience. This was the third baby shop they'd been in, and Daniel refused to settle on a cot, or a buggy.

"Jack, it's not the easy." Daniel moaned.

"If you don't pick one, I will." Jack warned.

"Ok, Ok, that one is nice." Daniel conceded pointing to a simple white a cot with a teddy bear picnic motif carved into the head.

"Fine. We'll take that one." Jack told the sales women, before Daniel had a chance to argue.

"Now what about a buggy?" Jack asked.

"What about that one?" he asked pointing to one of the buggies in the window display, yellow with little balloons and kites on it.

"No, that's no good." Daniel said, shaking his head, and bending a little to look at a similar buggy in a pale green, with kittens playing in various stances.

"This one." Daniel announced a few moments later.

Jack nodded to the teller, and waited as she racked up the prices, taking his address for delivery later that day.

1403hrs

"Daniel would you please either sit still or get out." Jack snapped. It was the third time in an hour he had nearly tripped over Daniel, and it was getting annoying.

Sam and Teal'c were helping them of course, Jack had called them as soon as they got home, and they'd been there for two hours helping Jack paper the walls of the nursery while Daniel looked on, generally getting under everyone's feet.

Both of their friends turned at the sound of Jack snapping, and were watching to see what would happen.

Daniel looked shocked.

"I... sorry." He babbled out before disappearing from the room, crying.

"Awwww FUCK!" Jack cursed, throwing the paste brush in his hand into the bucket and following Daniel to his room.

"Danny?" Jack asked quietly, knocking on the door as he stepped in, closing it behind him.

"I'm fine Jack, go finish the nursery." Daniel sniffled as he burrowed deeper under the covers he had pulled over himself.

Jack was more than a little ashamed of himself. Daniel had to hard enough; he didn't need him getting bitchy with him.

"Danny, I'm sorry ok, I shouldn't have snapped." Jack said, sitting down on the bed beside Daniel's huddled figure.

Daniel just sniffled again.

Jack sighed, he'd never been any good at this, damn it.

"Danny..." Jack paused he had no clue what to say; maybe he should just leave it for now.

No, that would just get Daniel more upset.

"Danny..." Jack whispered, kicking of his boots, and pulling himself up onto the bed behind Daniel, pulling the lightly shaking form of Daniel back towards him until he had the younger man in a tight embrace against his chest.

"I'm sorry Danny, I really am." Jack murmured against the younger man's ear.

"Not your fault I'm a bloody huge big pain in the ass who can't control his hormones." Daniel said between sniffles.

"Daniel, your not huge, and ok, sure pain in the ass, well ya always were, and as for hormones, you have a REALLY great excuse." Jack teased lightly.

"I'm sorry I was in your way." Daniel murmured.

"It's ok, I shouldn't have snapped." Jack said.

"Jack." Daniel said, his voice hesitant.

"Yeah?" Jack asked.

"Can you stay here a while... hold me?" Daniel asked, his voice a little shaky.

Jack smiled against Daniel's neck, moving to push the covers out of the way and slipping under the blankets with him and pulling him around so that he was facing him, bringing him forward into his arms.

"Go to sleep Danny, I'm right here." Jack promised lightly kissing Daniel's forehead as he rocked him slightly until he fell asleep in his arms.

1530hrs

"Sir?" Carter stuck her head around the door, when she didn't hear any sounds from within.

"Shush," Jack warned, trying to extract himself from Daniel, but the young man was having none of it, snuggling closer.

"It's ok sir, we've finished the papering, I'll take Teal'c back to base, we can come by tomorrow to finish it up." Sam said.

"Thanks Carter." Jack told her, nodding.

"Night Sir." Sam said, closing the door in her way out.

Tuesday June 9th 2003 - 0817hrs

"Ja'k?" Daniel said, shaking Jack sleepily.

"Hmmm... Wha?" Jack murmured.

"You're killing my arm," Daniel complained.

"Sor'y." Jack said, turning over and going back to sleep.

0825hrs

"Jack, coffee." Daniel said, shaking Jack gently.

"Coffee?" Jack asked, opening his eyes just a little. "Are you feeling alright?" he asked.

"I just thought... you always get up and make me coffee, and well after yesterday... I thought..." Daniel babbled.

"Thank-you." Jack said with a smile, taking the coffee gratefully.

"Guess we need to finish the nursery." Daniel said.

"Carter and Teal'c will be by later." Jack informed him.

"Kay... we could make a start." Daniel said.

Jack looked at Daniel warily, something was bothering his friend, more than just the nursery, but Jack couldn't tell what.

"Sure, just lemme get changed," Jack replied, thinking that maybe it was best to just play along for now.

"I'll go make you something to eat, if you want." Daniel offered.

"It's ok, I'm not hungry, have you had anything this morning?" Jack questioned him.

"Not yet, I didn't want anything..." Daniel replied, his voice trailing off at the end.

"Daniel, you know Doc said ya gotta eat regularly, go get something." Jack ordered.

"But Jack..." Daniel went to protest.

"Now Daniel, before I am forced to spoon feed you, and don't think for a second I wouldn't." Jack said, his 'I'm the Colonel. Do IT' voice on full tilt.

"Ok Jack." Daniel agreed with a sigh, his shoulders sagging as he headed for the door.

Jack looked around for a moment and noticed properly for the first time that he was in Daniel's room.

He must have fallen asleep.

Was that what was bothering Daniel.

God had Daniel woken up to find Jack, plastered half over him and... things... poking him in the gut?

That would certainly explain things.

Ok, well Daniel hadn't mentioned it, so maybe it was just best that Jack didn't, and avoided all situations where it could happen again.

Jack got up and went to his own room to get changed, finding Daniel in the kitchen two slices of cold untouched toast in front of him.

"Daniel?" Jack asked.

Daniel didn't respond.

Jack was worried, but he didn't want to startle Daniel, so he pulled a chair around in front of the other man, carefully laying his hand on Daniel's arm and lightly shaking him.

"Jack..." Daniel jumped a little, his eyes taking a few seconds to focus on where Jack was sitting in front of him.

"Daniel, what's wrong?" Jack asked, concerned etching his feature.

"Nothing, nothing is wrong." Daniel insisted jumping up and away from Jack, grabbing the toast and throwing it into the bin.

"Let it go cold, sorry Jack, I'll make more, eat it I promise." Daniel babbled on worrying Jack even more.

"Danny." Jack tired but Daniel didn't answer him, just kept prattling into himself, Jack couldn't make out what he was saying.

"Daniel!" Jack shouted at last, not loud, but loud enough to jar the other man away from what he was doing to turn and face him.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry." Daniel was gibbering over and over, tears steaming down his face, his arms wrapping around themselves as he rocked himself back and forward.

"Danny, please, your scaring me, what's wrong?" Jack pleaded, trying to get closer to Daniel without scaring him away, finally succeeding, and pulling the other man through to the living room, still crying and shaking until he could sit him down on the sofa.

"Daniel please, tell me what's wrong." Jack implored him, pulling Daniel into his arms, moving them so that he was half lying, Daniel beside him, his head on his chest.

"Sorry Jack, so sorry, so sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry." Daniel continued to burble and jabber half under his breath.

"Danny, you don't have anything to be sorry for, you didn't do anything wrong, it's alright." Jack tried to comfort him, but Daniel wasn't having it.

"Didn't mean to Jack... tried not to... so sorry." Daniel cried again, more intelligible this time, but not giving Jack anymore incites into what was wrong.

Daniel continued shaking and crying, Jack trying to comfort him, trying to figure out what was wrong, but the few words he could make out between 'sorry' and 'Jack' made no sense.

"Daniel." Jack tried again to get his friends attention, more gibbering met his attempts.

Jack didn't know what to say or do; he just kept holding him, rocking him a little against his chest, rubbing gentle circles on his back, trying to calm him enough to get him to talk.

"Danny? Come on, it's me, it's Jack, tell me what's wrong, please." Jack tried again after Daniel's sobs had calmed a little.

"Didn't mean to Jack." Daniel sniffled.

"Didn't mean to what?" Jack asked.

"Didn't mean to love you." Daniel murmured, his voice so low Jack wasn't sure that he heard correctly.

"Danny? Look at me." Jack ordered softly.

Daniel turned his red, puffy blue eyes upwards, his hands clutching softly at Jack's t-shirt.

"What did you just say?" Jack asked his voice gentle.

"I...never mind." Daniel tried to brush it away, suddenly very aware of what was going on.

"Daniel... please..." Jack implored, his brown eyes burning into Daniel's blue.

"I didn't mean to fall in love with you." Daniel said, his eyes watering again.

"I tired not to Jack... but I did, and now I can't hide it anymore, it's too much, and I swear Jack I'd never... I'm sorry, so sorry Jack, please don't hate me." Daniel begged, tears streaking down his face once more, as he hid it in Jack's t-shirt.

"Awwww Danny." Jack said, pulling Daniel closer to him, squeezing him as tightly as he dared.

"I'm not gonna hate ya Danny," Jack promised.

"I didn't mean to Jack." Daniel whispered again.

"Danny look at me." Jack said.

Daniel looked up again, tears still lightly trickling down his face.

"Are you sure about how you feel? Are you sure it's not just hormones?" Jack questioned, hoping that it was real.

"It's not, I... even before all this... but I can't control it now, tried so hard... but..." Daniel said, still waiting for Jack to get angry, yell at him, but it didn't happen.

Jack smiled, bringing his hand up to Daniel's face, whipping away the tears still lightly flowing down his cheeks.

"Jack..." Daniel asked, confusion and hope warring over his face.

Jack continued smiling, leaning forward until he was just a few centimetres from Daniel's face.

"I love you too Danny." Jack whispered, leaning in that last small gap and kissing Daniel gently. A bare brush of the lips, nothing more, but it was the sweetest kiss either of them had ever experienced.

Blue eyes stared into brown, both so lost in the moment that neither heard the knock on the door, or the footsteps that followed.

0907hrs

Sam and Teal'c had tried knocking but after getting no answer Sam used the key that Jack and Daniel had given her, she didn't really like to use it, but they had told her she could so...

The sight that greeted them in the living room wasn't so much shocking as surprising.

Sam and Teal'c were both very aware of how the men felt about each other, but neither expected them to act on it, especially Jack.

"Carter!" Jack yelped, forcing himself not to move too suddenly and hurt Daniel.

"Morning Sir, Daniel, got any coffee in the pot, I could murder a cup." Sam said cheerfully, walking past them into the kitchen.

"Teal'c you want a cup," she called back.

"Thank-you Major Carter" Teal'c intoned.

Daniel sat up, gazing sheepishly at Jack, pecking him quickly on the cheek before going in search of Sam, leaving Jack to talk to Teal'c.

"Sam?" Daniel asked, quizzical of Sam's reaction.

"Daniel?" Sam replied with a grin.

"You don't seem... surprised." Daniel pointed out.

"And why would I be? Daniel I've known how you felt about him for ages, and it didn't take a genius to know he felt the same. I'm happy for you both, just be careful ok?" Sam implored.

"We will, thanks Sam, I'm glad your ok with this, if you weren't... well Jack could lose everything," Daniel said.

"If you guys ever need an alibi, well I'm here, just let me know." Sam offered, giving Daniel a quick hug, before taking her coffee, and Teal'c into the other room to find Jack and Teal'c sitting dealing out a deck of cards.

"Wanna hand?" Jack asked.

"What you playing?" Daniel questioned sitting down beside him on the sofa.

"Five Card Stud, Jacks are wild." Jack replied, taking Daniel and Sam's nods and dealing them in.

Wednesday June 25th 2003 - 1539hrs

"That's the last of it," Jack said setting down the final of Daniel's boxes from home down in their new 'apartment'.

"Thanks Jack." Daniel said smiling at his lover. If that was the appropriate word, since Jack hadn't really done more than kiss him, even though they'd been sharing Jack's bed for two weeks, and Daniel had dropped MORE than his fair share of hints, Jack refused to catch the bait.

Sam and Teal'c had begged off a little while ago because General Hammond wanted them for a mission briefing with SG-11, leaving Jack to do all the heavy lifting since Daniel couldn't.

All the cameras had been removed though, so it meant the two men had complete privacy, which allowed them to get a little necking in on occasional breaks, something that was completely ok with both men, even if Jack was a little reluctant about it on base.

"Jack, can I ask you something?" Daniel asked.

"I think ya just did." Jack retorted playfully.

"Jaaack." Daniel moaned, long-suffering soul that he was, having to put up with a mad man for a boyfriend.

"What's the question?" Jack asked, sitting down on the bed and pulling Daniel down beside him, a strange feeling in his gut told him this was a serious type of question.

"Well... the past two weeks have been great, I mean really, but well... why don't you want to make love with me?" Daniel asked, the last part coming out in a rush of words so that Jack had to strain his ears to catch it all.

"What?" was Jack's immediate response, before he had chance to really process what Daniel had said.

"Well it's just..." Daniel paused.

"Danny, I want to, believe me." Jack interrupted.

"Then why...?" Daniel asked.

"Because your almost 3 months pregnant, and we don't know how this all works and I don't want to hurt you. Janet said that the artificial womb they put in was attached to all these different places, and I don't want to run the risk I could hurt you or the baby. Besides, I think it might be nice to wait, we've waited this long, what's another few months?" Jack pointed out.

"I guess." Daniel agreed.

"Danny don't do that, I know what your thinking and don't. Your gorgeous Danny, absolutely beautiful." Jack said, pulling Daniel into a tight hug, kissing along his jaw as he spoke.

"I'm fat." Daniel observed with a huff.

"Your beautiful." Jack said, his voice firm, but caring, brooking no arguments.

**knock, knock**

"Who is it?" Jack called, standing up.

"Me Sir." Sam called through the door.

"Oh, come on in Sam." Daniel called.

"Hi Sir, Daniel, how's it going?" Sam asked.

"Got everything in here, just a few more boxes to unpack. Why Daniel needs this much stuff is beyond me, he already has MORE than enough books in his office here." Jack complained, his hand rubbing his back as though he were in great pain.

"Well I have to do something stuck under here for months on end." Daniel moaned, his blue eyes flickering upwards from under lowered eyelids.

"Bastard." Jack retorted with a grin, grabbing yet another pile of books from one of the boxes and sticking them onto the bookshelf.

Infirmary Monday July 7th 2003 - 1123hrs

"Well Daniel everything is moving along fine, your at the stage the most women would be at after four months, even though your only three. I guess this baby can't wait to get out into the world." Janet said, putting down the scanner, and giving Daniel a towel to clean himself up with.

"So everything is ok then?" Jack asked from the side.

"Just fine Colonel, Daniel and the baby are both in excellent health, infact I don't think I have ever seen Daniel so healthy, since he's been eating right, sleeping for more than two of three hours a night, drinking less coffee etc, etc..." Janet said, making a point of all the bad habits that Daniel had given up on since being pregnant.

Daniel pouted, listening to Janet and Jack list of all the bad habits he'd had to give up, most of them VERY unwillingly.

"Can I go now?" Daniel asked.

"In a rush?" Janet asked, pouting herself.

"I didn't think my company was that bad." She added.

"I have a translation to finish for SG-7, I WOULD have finished it last night, but Jack wouldn't let me." Daniel complained.

"I should think not, it was nearly mid-night when I dragged you back to our quarters anyway, I SHOULDN'T have let you work that late." Jack insisted.

Janet watched them interact, it was funny that no one else had noticed it yet, or if they had, they weren't saying, but the two men had always been so much like an old married couple, it wasn't surprising that they had gotten together, even though it took so long.

"Jack was right to stop you then," Janet said, interrupting their diatribe.

"Meanie." Daniel replied, sticking his tongue out at here.

He'd been doing things like that a lot lately; being pregnant was making him highly purpetualant.

"Go and finish your translation Daniel." Jack mock ordered, since Daniel would never have followed an actual order.

"I'll see you at lunch time?" Daniel asked.

"I'll swing by and pick you up." Jack promised.

Daniel left Jack and Janet alone, not thinking anything strange about Jack staying.

"Is everything ready?" Jack asked once he was sure Daniel was out of ear shot.

"Well as ready as it can be, the only thing we're missing is the cake." Janet informed him with a glare. The cake had been Jack's job.

"I'm picking it up this afternoon, I told Daniel I have to go up to the airfield to log some flight time and I am going to get it then." Jack replied.

"Well they were all ready." Janet told him.

"Great, this is just what Daniel needs, something to cheer him up, I know he seems ok, but he's been down lately." Jack said.

"I can't say I've really noticed, but then you spend more time with him that me." Janet said.

"See ya tomorrow Doc," Jack said, waving as he went in search of Sam to make sure her part in the proceedings was ready.

Trying to plan a birthday party in a mountain, which the person it was for, couldn't leave was asking for trouble, but Jack was sure they'd done it without Daniel even suspecting.

Jackson-O'Neill Quarters- Tuesday 8th July 2003 - 1657hrs

Jack was going to kill him. He couldn't find Daniel ANYWHERE, and he had to have him in the Commissary in less than three minutes for his surprise Birthday party.

He'd looked in his office, the toilets, their quarters, he'd checked the gate, he'd even asked General Hammond's secretary, and now back in their quarters, but no sign.

Picking up the phone he hit the extension for Sam's office, hoping he was there, or at least that she was still there so he could tell her to stall.

"Carter, I can't find Daniel, is he with you?" Jack asked over the phone.

"No sir, but I saw him with Teal'c a little while ago heading for Teal'c' quarters, I think they were gonna meditate or something, their probably still there." Sam told him.

"Thanks, see ya down at the commissary." Jack told her, nearly knocking over some random airman as he barrelled towards Teal'c' quarters.

Teal'c Quarters - 1659hrs

"There you are." Jack said, exasperated.

"Yes Jack, here I am." Daniel replied standing somewhat awkwardly.

"Come on." Jack ordered, taking Daniel's hand and dragging him off before he had chance to ask where.

To the best of Daniel's knowledge there was nowhere special he had to be.

No one seemed to have remembered his birthday.

At least no one had mentioned it, well except for Cassie who'd sent him a hand made card, he'd have to thank her.

Commissary - 1703hrs

Everyone hushed as Sam warned them Daniel was on his way.

It had been mean tricking Colonel O'Neill but it had been the only way to guarantee that they'd get enough warning before Daniel arrived.

Well he'd never know.

"SURPRISE!" the cry rang around the room as Daniel stepped through the door ahead of Jack.

Jack leaned in behind him, he couldn't do what he really wanted... i.e. kiss him senseless, so he settled for whispering a happy birthday into his ear, causing him to shiver.

"Sur... for me?" Daniel asked, shell-shocked.

"Happy Birthday Daniel," Sam and Janet both called, leaning up to give the archaeologist a kiss on each cheek, oh Jack was so going after them for that. Daniel was HIS!

Cassie snuck up on him, giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek of her own, but well Jack would let her away with it, she was only a kid, and well it wasn't like her crush on Daniel was a secret, everyone but Daniel himself knew about it.

"Come on, presents!" Sam announced gaily, pushing Daniel towards two tables put together in the middle of the room full of presents.

"Oh My God!" Daniel said shocked again. So many packages, they couldn't all be for him.

"Everyone of them Daniel." Jack told him with a soft smile.

Daniel tore into the gifts with zealous, pulling colourful wrappings out of the way and throwing the paper in the general direction of the bin that had been set near by.

He had books, of course, small trinkets and ornaments... like he didn't have MORE than enough, a few shirts, bandanas, from an unknown (Jack) source, and a few other bits and pieces that he'd wanted from his friends.

Ferretti had even hunted down a book that Daniel had been looking for on the Internet, crediting his wife with the find, but himself with the bill.

Daniel was astounded by it all, and even more so by the three, count em, three airmen it took to carry it all back to his and Jack's quarters.

The party went on for hours, Daniel chattering to everyone as Jack looked on silently, he had been right, Daniel needed this, to know that people cared, supported him, other than Jack himself.

It was close to 2300 when everyone had cleared out, and Jack decided that Daniel looked tired and needed rest.

"Come on Danny boy, home time." Jack ordered, nodding to the few people who were left and taking Daniel's arm to lead him home.

Jackson-O'Neill Quarters- 2313hrs

"Hey sit down a sec." Jack told Daniel, settling him on the bed, going into the bathroom and bringing out his present from the one place he knew Daniel couldn't go, mainly because he couldn't get down that far without a lot of bother, and he sure couldn't get up with out a lot of help.

"Here." Jack offered Daniel the small carefully wrapped (by the shop assistant) gift.

Daniel looked confused.

"But you already gave me a present." Daniel said.

"That was one suitable for public eyes. Go on open it." Jack told him.

Daniel unwrapped the gift, far more carefully that any of the others, finding a black leather box inside which he opened to reveal a gold watch.

The watch had Egyptian symbols for numbers in place of the standards, or roman numerals, and a sphinx drawn in the centre. As Daniel ran his fingers over the watch he felt something on the back and turning it over found an inscription.

D
4ever
J

Such a simple inscription, not one that could be easily picked apart if it was noticed, the J could stand for just about anything really, and since it was on the back it was unlikely that it would be spotted anyway.

Daniel loved it.

"Oh Jack it's beautiful. Thank-You." He said, holding his wrist out for Jack to put it on.

Pulling Jack closer after he'd fastened the strap to kiss him.

"I love you." Daniel whispered.

"Love you too Danny, happy birthday." Jack replied kissing him again.

Jackson-O'Neill Quarters Saturday 23rd August 2003 - 1937hrs

"Daniel calm down!" Jack yelled. He didn't mean to, really, he knew he had to be patient with Daniel, but for God's sake a man could only take to much and they'd been coped up in here for a month.

Jack oh course could leave anytime, but he didn't want to leave Daniel, he'd promised he'd be there.

Jack watched as Daniel stopped mid stride, pausing just a few inches from the bed. What was he going to do this time? Cry? Yell? Throw Something?

He threw something.

Grabbing the nearest available thing, a crystal like stone, that was harder than almost any known precious stone found on earth, he flung it across the room.

Jack ducked but he was about three seconds too late as the stone grazed the side of his head just hard enough to send him to the ground... unconscious.

"Jack!" Daniel's cry rose through the room.

"Fuck!" Daniel cursed, grabbing the phone and calling for Janet.

Infirmary - 1247hrs

Daniel was sitting beside Jack's bed, mostly cursing at himself in between worriedly watching Jack and flickering glances at the door waiting for the SF's to come and arrest him.

"Daniel, go, rest now, and that's an order, I'll have Teal'c come and carry you out if I have to." Janet ordered.

"I did this Jan, fuck I am such a over hormonal bastard, I could have fucking killed him." Daniel ranted the last part jumping up and pacing three paces forward and three back before flopping onto the chair again.

"Daniel. Your pregnant, hormones are normal. And it's doubly hard for you because your body wasn't made for this. If they hadn't removed your kidney and given you that artificial womb, you'd never have been able to get pregnant. Not to mention that your pregnancy is moving a little faster than most human pregnancies, your only three months along and it seems more like four according to my scans. I think your likely to have the baby after only two or three more months instead of six." Janet explained, they'd talked it over before of course, but Janet felt it needed reaffirming for Daniel right now.

"What if I'd killed him Jan? I couldn't have lived with my self, with out him." Daniel sniffled.

"Daniel, your tired, and upset, go and rest, I promise Jack will be fine, as soon as he wakes up I'll call you." Janet said resting her hand on Daniel's shoulder, helping him up and nodding at a near by nurse to get him back to his quarters.

1332hrs

"Welcome back to the land of the living" Janet said, flickering a light into Jack's eyes, which closed immediately.

"Uggg... Daniel... rock... ouch." Jack replied.

"I know, I sent him to rest, he was in one hell of a state, he feels terrible Jack." Janet said.

She was getting far to use to calling her superior by his first name lately.

"Good." Jack grouched.

"Jack!" Janet said.

"I know, I know, hormones. But fuck it my head hurts." Jack bitched.

"Well I can give you something for that. Look please just, don't take it out on Daniel ok, he was a nervous wreck when he was in her, watching you and the door like he was waiting for SF's to come and arrest him." Janet said.

Jack sighed.

"Can I blow this joint?" he asked.

"No offence Doc, but as great as your company is, your digs leave a lot to be desired." Jack added.

"You can go Colonel, but your likely to have a nasty headache for a day or two, if it gets any worse let me know." Janet ordered.

"Sure Doc." Jack agreed.

Jackson-O'Neill Quarters 1356hrs

Jack entered his and Daniel's quarters expecting to find Daniel asleep, or at least lying down resting, but instead he was bumbling around from one place to another, books scattered over the bed and every other available surface a note pad in hand scribbling furiously.

"Daniel?" Jack asked quizzically.

Daniel continued his scribbling ignoring Jack,

"Daniel!" Jack tried again a little louder, but the younger man still ignored him.

Jack picked up the phone near him and dialled the number for Sam's office.

"Carter, can you come up here please?" he asked, hanging up the receiver after getting her affirmative, and turning back to watch Daniel pacing back and forward.

Sam arrived a few moments later, not even bothering to knock on the door before barging in.

"Sir?" she asked a little out of breath, having run down most of the way, knowing something must be up from the tone in Jack's voice.

"He won't answer me when I talk to him, just keeps bouncing back and forward between books, scribbling down notes and muttering to himself." Jack told her, worry plastered across his face.

"Daniel?" Sam tried moving closer to her civilian team-mate.

"Hi Sam, sorry can't talk, busy." Daniel replied, moving back across the other side of the room to another book.

"Daniel, Jack's worried about you, why won't you talk to him?" Sam asked him.

"Jack's not here Sam, he went away, I sent him away." Daniel babbled, almost incoherent.

"Daniel, Jack is right here." Sam tried but Daniel didn't respond.

"When did you send Jack away?" Sam asked instead.

"Earlier, he was here, mad at me. I hurt him you know." Daniel babbled on, still scribbling notes onto the pad in his hand.

Jack watched as Sam talked Daniel through everything, working him down from his frenzy until he gave it up and collapsed onto the only free space on the bed.

Sam nodded at Jack to clear away the books, sitting next to Daniel, brushing her hand through his hair as she'd seen Jack do to calm him into sleep.

"I think hitting you must have really given him a scare. Maybe we should see about getting someone to talk to him, I mean professionally." Sam suggested as she pushed herself away from Daniel to help Jack clear away the last of Daniel's books back to their shelves.

"What Mac the Quack? I'm sure Daniel would LOVE that." Jack retorted.

"Well maybe someone else." Sam suggested.

"Like? Mac is the only shrink in on the whole SGC secret we can't exactly bring in someone and say 'a pregnant guy needs a shrink, but no we can't tell you how he's pregnant'." Jack answered, shoving the note pad Daniel had been using into his desk drawer.

"No Sir, I suppose not," Sam agreed.

"Look I'll deal with Daniel when he wakes up, he's just had a scare is all, this whole thing has been a lot for him to digest, but he is going to be fine, he's just scared and worried, needs to know someone is there for him, and if he thinks he scared me off after throwing that rock at me earlier, then he thinks he lost that." Jack said, surprising himself with how much sense what he said made.

"Bye Sir." Sam said nodding; he'd call again if he needed.

1923hrs

Daniel was waking up, he was still curled into a ball on the bed where he'd collapsed earlier, his back to Jack.

Jack moved over behind him, pulling him back against him as he woke up.

"Hey Danny?" Jack greeted softly as Daniel's eyes flickered open and closed a few times.

Daniel went to pull away but Jack wouldn't let him.

"Easy babe, it's just me." Jack whispered.

"I hurt you." Daniel choked out.

"You didn't mean to Danny, it was an accident." Jack murmured, kissing the back of Daniel's neck.

"I could have... I could... " Daniel choked on his words again.

"You didn't Daniel, I'm fine, you're fine, the baby is fine. Everything is going to be ok, just you wait and see." Jack promised.

"Your not gonna leave me?" Daniel asked.

"Never Danny, not ever." Jack promised, holding Daniel tighter.

Daniel shuffled around in Jack's arms so he was facing him, leaning into kiss him.

They'd done this so many times, Daniel knew the inside of Jack's mouth better than he knew he own, he knew every little crevice. He knew the tastes, the ones that came from whatever Jack had been eating or drinking, and the ones that came from Jack himself, but it was still amazing to experience it each and every time.

"Jack... I want you... please?" Daniel begged, pushing himself against Jack, making it very clear what he meant.

"Danny, we talked about this, we can't..." Jack groaned, he couldn't help it, the sensation of Daniel pressed against him like that was driving him mad.

"Please Jack... we don't have to go all the way... just something, pleeease." Daniel pleaded.

Jack was trying not to give in, he really, really was, but Daniel pressed against him, his hardness pushing against Jack's leg, it was all too much.

Jack pulled Daniel back into the kiss, this one more passionate than the others, this one had an edge.

Daniel clutched at Jack, grinding himself against him as best he could.

"Easy Danny," Jack said, pulling back, hands slipping under Daniel's t-shirt, sliding up his chest, grazing his nipples lightly.

"Jaaack..." Daniel moaned.

"We've gotta be careful babe." Jack whispered, nibbling along Daniel's jaw, and down to his neck.

Daniel groaned, his hands roaming over all of Jack he could find, until he had to stop to allow Jack to remove their t-shirts.

Bare-chested they pressed against each other, kissing and nibbling at all available skin, Jack taking extra care around Daniel's bump.

Jack pushed Daniel's hands out of the way.

"Let me." He ordered softly, moving down until he could pull Daniel's pants and boxers off, stopping to pull his shoes off before throwing all the clothes onto the floor, leaving Daniel bare beneath him.

"Beautiful!" Jack exclaimed, hands running gently down Daniel's flanks, across his hips and resting on his thighs.

Jack kissed his way along Daniel's body, following the same path his hands had taken, loving how Daniel's moans became pronounced and urgent, as he got closer to his destination.

Leaning in Jack slowly took Daniel into his mouth, carefully, slowly, licking and sucking his way from base to tip until Daniel came in his throat with a strangled cry.

Jack moved back up, kissing Daniel gently until he come down from his explosive orgasm.

Daniel rolled facing Jack, taking him into his hand.

"Dannnny." Jack groaned.

"Hmm," Daniel murmured, licking at Jack's neck, nibbling just on the pulse point.

Jack couldn't answer, what Daniel was doing felt too good.

It didn't take long, Jack was already so worked up that in almost no time at all he gave a strangled cry of his own as he released jets of milky white liquid over both himself and Daniel.

The two men were exhausted, lying together, holding each other as closely as they could with the bump of their child in the middle.

"I love you Danny." Jack murmured, kissing Daniel gently.

"Love you too, thank-you." Daniel said.

"Wha for?" Jack asked.

"For this, I know you wanted to wait, but I needed it Jack, I really did." Daniel replied, snuggling a just little closer.

"I know babe, I did too." Jack said, kissing the top of Daniel's head as they drifted off to sleep.

Friday July 18th 2003 0306hrs

"Jack." Daniel shook his lover again, trying to wake him up.

"Wha? Daniel what's wrong?" Jack asked, bouncing up, worried.

"I'm hungry." Daniel informed him.

"So go and get something from the commissary," Jack replied.

"They don't have what I want." Daniel complained.

"And that would be?" Jack asked.

"Treacle Pudding, but it's not just normal treacle pudding you can only get it from the 7/11 on the highway, they lady there makes it herself." Daniel announced.

"I'm going to get some of it aren't I?" Jack half asked already getting out of bed, to go hunting for his trousers.

"If you don't mind." Daniel said, puppy dog eyes to full force.

"I'll be back in an hour or so." Jack replied, kissing Daniel as he headed out the door.

The things he did for a quiet life.

0517hrs

Over two hours later, Jack still wasn't back. As a matter of fact he was stuck on the motorway a little ways up from the 7/11 behind a traffic jam that stretched as far as he could see.

Pulling out his cell Jack dialled the mountain, and got Daniel's connection, waiting for Daniel to answer, which he did rather sleepily a few moments later.

"Ja'k? Where are you? I thought you said you'd only be an hour." Daniel asked, sleepily.

"Traffic Jam. I don't know how long I'll be." Jack replied.

"Did you get the pudding?" Daniel asked.

"Yes Daniel I got it, and so will you, just as soon as I get out of this damn traffic." Jack said, a long-suffering sigh accompanying his words.

"Kay. See you later." Daniel mumbled, hanging up the phone.

Jack was a second away from cursing every alien alive, most especially the Fremanza, but then he remember that this whole situation had gotten him Daniel, and they were going to have a baby, and he changed his mind.

0713hrs

Jack traipsed through the early morning corridors of the SGC, there were very few people around at this hour, but as he passed by the commissary he noticed Sam sitting note pad in front of her eating whatever that excuse for food was on her plate.

"Carter." Jack greeted, deciding Daniel could wait a few more minutes.

"Sir, what are you doing up so early?" she asked.

"Daniel wanted pudding. I wanted to live. I went to get him pudding." Jack said.

"How long ago was that?" she asked with a smile as though she knew.

"Oh about four hours." Jack replied.

"Hehe. Sorry Sir, but... let me guess treacle pudding, from that little 7/11 of the highway?" Sam asked.

"That would be it." Jack agreed with a nod.

"You better get it too him Sir," Sam said.

"Oh I will, maybe, if I feel like it." Jack said, pausing as though he was thinking of throwing it in the bin and saying someone stole it from his car when he wasn't looking before shaking of that thought and getting up to go give it to Daniel, smiling a good by at Sam.

0723hrs

Daniel was fast asleep when Jack got into their room. He seriously thought about waking him, but decided against it, he looked so peaceful sleeping, the worries that years of life at the SGC and before had given him whipped away.

Too awake to bother sleeping now Jack took on of Daniel's books from the shelves. Ancient Egyptian Myths. Well it would pass a little time.

0943hrs

Daniel had been awake for over ten minutes, but he hadn't moved, instead he was watching Jack reading.

The older man had one of Daniel's books on Egyptian Myths over his knee, reading carefully, pages turning every so often.

Daniel smiled.

He knew Jack wasn't nearly as stupid as he liked people to think, they didn't make idiots into Colonel's, well most of the time; Simmons and Makepeace were obvious exceptions.

Daniel hated to think of those times, when he and Jack had lost their friendship; oh they were friends he supposed in some strange distant way.

It was only recently after Daniel had come back from being ascended that they had really gotten back the friendship they had forged on Abydos so many years ago.

Jack turned another page, looking at something, his brow furrowing, settling the book on the table beside him he took another book from the bookshelf, flicking through it until he found what he was looking for, looking back to the first book, nodding to himself as though he'd found something interesting before returning the second book to the shelf and going back to the first.

Daniel watched him for another ten minutes before his bladder began to protest and he knew he had to get up.

Faking waking up slowly so that Jack had time to divest himself of the book, Daniel tumbled out of bed and into the bathroom.

"Mornin'" Jack called cheerfully after him.

Daniel grunted, flicking on the coffee pot and watching as the pot slowly filled, pretending he'd never seen Jack's little 'discovery' whatever that might have been.

"I got your pudding." Jack said.

"It's in the fridge." He added, pointing to the small half sized fridge they had for milk and other things they had that might need to be kept cool.

"Thanks Jack, sorry to be such a bother." Daniel answered a few moments later, after a sufficient caffeine intake.

"No problem. What else am I here for if not to be bothered? Besides, you do it sooooo well." Jack teased, ducking as Daniel went to hit him a clip around the ear.

Daniel stopped suddenly.

"Danny?" Jack asked concerned.

"I nearly hit you again." Daniel said, his voice low, dejected.

"Danny, it was barely a bump, Doc said I didn't even have a concussion, just a headache." Jack assured him.

"I just..." Daniel stopped.

"Hey we talked about this already." Jack said, pulling Daniel into a hug.

"Yesterdays news got it." Jack said, punctuating the words with a kiss.

"Kay..." Daniel agreed, smiling.

"I'm hungry." Daniel announced.

"Pudding?" Jack asked.

Daniel nodded, and Jack went in search of bowls from their small cupboard, and spoons.

"Two?" Daniel asked.

"I was stuck in traffic for three hours because of this stuff, I am having some, and it had better be good." Jack said, mock madness in his voice.

"Pudding thief." Daniel said, grinning as Jack got said pudding out of the fridge and stuck it in the microwave to heat it up.

Friday September 12th 2003 - 1319hrs

Daniel was pouting, a lot.

He wanted to know what gender the baby was, but Jack was insisting they should wait and see.

"But Jaaaack." He tried moaning, his pouty lips, and puppy dog eyes turned full force on his lover, who found it hard to say no at the best of times.

"Daniel it's only two more months." Jack tried.

"I want to know now Jack, not in two months." Daniel persisted.

"Fine, just don't tell me." Jack said, moving over to the other side of the room so Janet could whisper it into Daniel's ear and Jack wouldn't have to know.

"A BOY!" Daniel half shouted when Janet told him, grinning.

"I said Daniel that I DIDN'T want to know." Jack growled.

"Sorry Jack, but..." Daniel smiled sweetly, Jack knew what he meant, it was pretty exciting news, even if he hadn't really wanted to know it.

Jack couldn't help but smile back, it was contagious... They were going to have a son.

"Congratulations." Janet said, watching the two men.

How much things had changed in only five months, they'd gone from shock to acceptance to joy about the baby, and from friends to lovers.

Janet could see they were just itching to be able to touch each other, hug each other, but there were cameras in here, and no matter how hard Janet had tried to get permission to turn them off for Daniel's visits.

"Encase they fall into the wrong hands Sir." She's said, Hammond knew she meant the NID.

But he'd still said no, they had to be kept on, but only one copy would be made, and that he would keep them in a locked cupboard, where no one but him would have access.

It worked in theory... but even now it meant that Jack and Daniel had to behave.

Janet gave them both a hug at the same time, one arm around each of them, it may have been a hug with her in the middle but it was the best they could get until they were in their private quarters.

"Thanks Janet" Jack whispered. Daniel gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Wednesday 22nd October 2003 - 2156hrs

"But Jack there is nothing wrong with Faisal as a name," Daniel moaned, as Jack worked a creak in his back.

He was lying on the bed on his side; Jack behind him, massaging all the aches and pains away, God was he ever good at that.

"Nothing Daniel is this way Egypt, or some place like that, but this is the states." Jack pointed out.

Daniel pouted, but since his back was to Jack it didn't have the desired affect.

Maybe Jack was right; people would find it very strange for an American child to have an Egyptian name, and he didn't want his son to be teased and picked on.

"What about... Jacob?" Daniel asked.

"Jake maybe, but Jacob? Not that I don't adore Sam's dad, but it is a kinda old fashioned name." Jack complained.

So far he did that with every name Daniel had suggested, it was too old sounding, too new sounding, to foreign sounding, too something wrong sounding in general.

"Em...Grayson?" Daniel asked, smiling to himself.

"Grayson?" Jack questioned.

"What sort of a name is Grayson?" he asked.

"It's English Jack, it means 'Son of the grey haired one' Daniel informed him, giggling.

"Why you little..." Jack nipped him. He was going to tickle him, but he didn't want to over excite him, because Janet had warned that it could induce the labour, and she figured they baby needed at least another month to mature fully.

"Well what about Samuel? Sam, or Sammy for short?" Daniel asked at last.

"It's... Sammy, I think I like that." Jack said.

Finally.

"Samuel then, and we'll call him Sammy for short," Daniel agreed, groaning again as Jack hit just the right spot.

"Your...uggg... verrrry good at that." Daniel said, almost purring as Jack continued the massage.

Thursday 27th November 2003 - 0304hrs

"Jack," Daniel winced in pain, trying to shake Jack awake as yet another contraction hit.

Damn it he should have listened to Janet, she'd told him to call her as soon as he felt the first contraction, WHY had he not listened?

"JACK!" Daniel shouted right in the sleeping man's ear.

"What?" Jack yelped jumping up.

"Baby." Daniel panted, wincing as another contraction hit.

"Damn it, Daniel since when?" Jack asked.

"Last night." Daniel admitted.

"I'm gonna kill you Daniel, right as soon as I call Janet, hold on." Jack grabbed the phone and called Janet at home, explaining that Daniel was in labour to the somewhat sleepy doctor, and that he had been since sometime last night."Infirmary." Jack ordered.

"Can you walk?" he asked.

"I think so." Daniel said, taking Jack's arm as he helped him up, keeping a tight grip as Jack lead him slowly but surely to the infirmary.

They were nearly at the lift when Daniel buckled over, the pain in his abdomen too much for him to handle.

"Fuck!" Jack cursed, settling Daniel against the wall and disappearing around to the nearest guard station for help.

By the time they made it to the infirmary, Jack and the two SF's were almost carrying Daniel.

"Easy Doctor Jackson," the nurse who was on duty said, giving him a shot to ease the pain.

"Doctor Fraiser called ahead, she'll be here in a few minutes." The nurse informed them, leaving Jack to get Daniel as comfortable as possible.

Janet arrived as promised a few minutes later, getting all Daniel's vitals.

"Prep him for the OR." Janet ordered.

"Jack come with me so we can get you scrubbed up." She added.

"Jack. God please don't go." Daniel begged, wincing again in pain as fresh tears travelled down his face.

"I'm only gonna be a minute Danny, I promise I'll be right here with you ok, just need to get scrubbed up or Janet can't let me in with you." Jack calmed him, promising to be quick.

"Now Daniel this is only a local anaesthetic, so you'll still be awake, but it will dull the pain down to almost nothing around your abdomen." Janet told him as he was wheeled into the OR.

Hammond was there, as were Sam and Teal'c, God knows how they found out so fast, but Jack was glad to know that Daniel's 'family' would be just outside.

"Easy Danny," Jack said whipping Daniel's brow with a damp cloth, even with the anaesthetic he was still in quite a bit of pain.

"OK Daniel here goes." Janet warned.

Jack could see the scalpel, and the score it made across Daniel's stomach, but he forced himself to look away, before he was sick.

"Almost there." Jack promised a few minutes later.

"Almost there." He murmured, holding tightly to Daniel's hand.

It was like time was moving at a snails pace, everyone was silent except for Jack's murmured comforts, and the occasional order from Janet.

Silence reigned for several long stretching moments until...

"WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH."

The cry tore through the silence like a knife, everyone's eyes turning to look as Janet lifted a small baby boy into her arms.

"Jack, do you want to cut the cord?" she asked him, handing him scissors, which he took with only slightly shaking hands, and cut the cord.

"Congratulations. You have a son." She said, more for everyone else's benefit that theirs, since they already knew.

Outside the room several pairs of ears listened with care, Sam, Teal'c, Hammond, even Ferretti and SG-2 had arrived not so long ago.

"WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH."

They heard the cry from with in.

Smiles and hugs were exchanged all around as they waited for news.

Janet appeared out the door a few moments later.

"It's a boy." She informed the group with a smile.

"Parents and son are just fine." She added.

"He's gorgeous." Daniel whispered as he held his son to his chest, Jack leaning over him, his fingers playing gently over the soft skin of his sons face.

"Yeah he is." Jack agreed.

"Welcome to the world Samuel." Daniel greeted softly, Jack smiling down on them both with pride.

Jack softly intoned Daniel's sentiment as he watched his son.

"Welcome to the world."
