Summary: Daniel's return isn't quite what everyone had expected
'Everyone turn away. I want no witnesses.'
Those words, combined with the angry expression, made Daniel hold his tongue for the rest of the briefing. When everyone started to leave, he caught Sam's arm. "He doesn't like me, does he?"
Sam knew exactly who he was talking about. "He's just frustrated," she excused him. "We were really relying on those weapons to stop Anubis."
Daniel wished he could remember everything so he knew why he had apparently made that deal. "I should probably stay well away from Jack for a while then."
"Maybe," she agreed. "But I know he's glad to have you back, as are we all."
Her sincerity lit a spark of warmth inside him. "I just wish I could help you."
Sam patted him on the shoulder. "I know. Come on, let's get something to eat."
Daniel nodded; food sounded good. But he had to ask one last question. "Do you think Jack will ever forgive me?"
"I'm sure he will"

Jack had fled the briefing immediately, going to his office for sanctuary. He was angry and hurt at the same time, and he didn't want to take those emotions out on anybody.
Angry because they now had no way of defeating Anubis.
Angry because he had trusted Daniel back on Abydos.
Hurt because Daniel didn't remember him.
He hadn't known how to behave on Vis Uban after becoming aware Daniel had no memory of his life. A part of him wanted to say to him, "Remember me? I was the love of your life!" even though it wasn't true - well, not at that time anyway. They had been experiencing a rough patch before that ill-fated trip to Kelowna, one Jack had regretted deeply over the past year. Now he had been given a second chance and Daniel couldn't even remember his name.
His love for Daniel hadn't faded but Jack wasn't so sure about his trust. He had trusted Daniel on so many levels even though he had disagreed with the whole thing on Abydos, and then Daniel hadn't been able to stop Anubis from destroying the planet and its' people.
With a heavy sigh, Jack slumped back into his chair. He couldn't rekindle their relationship under such circumstances, and he was not really sure he wanted to. Oh, he still loved Daniel but he didn't think that was enough without trust.
Closing his eyes against the sting of tears, Jack remained in his office for as long as he could.
