Jack stared at the empty bed for a long time, hardly able to believe that Daniel was really gone this time. It wasn't supposed to happen this way; Daniel was always supposed to be able to cheat death.

Daniel, I hardly recognised you with hair.

Jack started at the memory. Cassie had said that when SG-1 had been sent forward to 2069 three years ago. So unless they had irreparably changed the future...

Daniel was going to come back.

Hope rising in him, Jack found the strength to leave the isolation room. Daniel would return one day and grow old like the rest of them.

He couldn't wait for that day.
