Summary: Sam comes back from a planet pregnant with Janet's baby
Info: Overly sweet story written for the Sam and Janet ficathon on Livejournal recently.
There was an obvious spring in Colonel O'Neill's step as he made his way down the ramp and the delight was apparent in his voice when he spoke, 'We found technologically advanced, friendly aliens who don't seem to be Nazi's, evil in any way or planning on destroying us in either the long or short term, Sir.'
'They even have a sense of humour,' Daniel said pointedly.
'I look forward to hearing all about them,' General Hammond replied from the control room with a gesture to the gateroom door.
'We have been mistaken before O'Neill,' Teal'c said and General Hammond got the impression that it'd been something he'd been holding back from saying until they were back on earth.
'Law of averages Teal'c,' Jack said, holding up one finger. 'This time we're bound to be right.'
'Sir,' Sam interrupted, 'You know there isn't a law of averages.'
Any reply was lost around the other side of the door.

'They call themselves the Badari,' Daniel explained. 'They were transplanted by the Goa'uld from Egypt by Ra five thousand years ago as slaves in the naquada mines. The mines dried up fairly quickly, especially given the rate Ra seemed to have mined them at and then they were effectively abandoned. Their Stargate was buried for a long time, but within the last couple of centuries it was uncovered again. They knew what it did, but had no addresses. It'd been sitting dormant in one of their scientific institutions. They were surprised when we stepped through.'
'And they're technologically advanced?'
'They are in a lot of areas, particularly medicine,' Sam said. 'They've also got some interesting solar energy technology. They're willing to discuss trade on almost anything at this point.'
'What do they want in exchange?' General Hammond asked.
'A few things, Sir. Firstly,' Jack said, holding up one finger again, 'Shuttles.'
'The Badari are in their own space race right now, but no one has managed to get a manned craft into space yet. We think that is something we could offer them,' Sam detailed.
'That, gate addresses, and rock music. Carter let one of them listen to her MP3 player,' Jack went on.
'I assume we still need to find out more about them?' General Hammond asked.
'Yes General,' Jack replied. 'We mentioned that we'd had bad experiences in the past and they suggested an exchange of diplomatic and scientific teams.
'We'll put some together,' General Hammond said with a nod.

They at least had the decency to look embarrassed when they stepped through the event horizon and down the ramp, but under the embarrassment Jack had the distinct impression that they were both far more amused than they should be.
'Pregnant? Really?' Jack couldn't help asking incredulously.
Sam did a very good job of definitely not looking at Janet and managed to keep her face straight when she answered, 'Yes Sir.'
'Report to the infirmary Major, and Doctor,' General Hammond told them.
Jack swung around on his heel and wandered after them, hands in his pockets, 'I thought we'd established very firm rules about not touching strange alien devices.'
'They said it was perfectly safe,' Sam said, with a shrug, 'They just failed to mention exactly what the device did.'
'They weren't lying,' Janet added, 'We were both perfectly safe.'
'Except now one of you is pregnant,' Jack went on, feeling that they were missing the point. He was sure Carter was grinning, even if he could only see the back of her head.

'Major Carter and Doctor Fraiser are both fine. It is too early to tell whether Major Carter is indeed pregnant, but I'm not sure why the Badari would lie about it so we should probably assume that she is.'
'Is there any indication that either Doctor Fraiser of Major Carter has come to any harm as a result of this incident?'
'No Sir,' Doctor MacKenzie answered. 'In fact Doctor Carter seems to be experiencing several beneficial side effects from the device including slightly raised serotonin levels and a release of endorphins. I expect these to pass, but for now, she's better than fine.'
Sam smiled slightly to herself.
'Is there any reason why this incident should affect relations between us and the Badari?' General Hammond asked.
'No Sir,' Sam said, 'It was our faux pas rather than theirs. More of a miscommunication about purpose. Our escorts were mortified when they realised that I might not wanted to be pregnant with Janet's child.'
'I recommend re-iterating the 'no touching' rule with our teams?' Jack suggested.
'Agreed,' General Hammond said with a slight shake of his head. 'In the mean time, you're both back on active duty and there are negotiations to conclude.'
There was a murmur of 'yes Sirs' around the table and they all got to their feet as General Hammond left.
'Alright, gear up kids. I believe two of us have an ambassadorial reception thing this evening,' he said with a look at Sam, 'and we have left Daniel and Teal'c unattended except for a handful of scientists and diplomats on an alien planet for several hours now.'
'At least we know they can't get pregnant,' Sam said in a stage whisper to Janet.
'I don't know,' Janet said in an equally loud whisper, 'They have got some pretty impressive technology. Splicing two eggs together was only the start of their demonstration, remember?'
'Gah!' Jack said as he hurried from the briefing room.

Janet was still up reading in the lounge area when Sam returned from the party to the quarters that the earth personnel had been assigned. They had three suites in one of the fanciest hotels in the Badari capital city between them and each suite had three twin rooms. Sam tiptoed into the room, aware that at least one of the rooms was occupied by sleeping personnel.
'Can't sleep?' she asked Janet as she dropped onto the sofa next to her.
'Gate-lag. My body thinks it's,' Janet checked her watch, 'Only eight pm.'
Sam sprawled happily on the sofa, undid the top button on her dress shirt and removed her tie tab.
'Good party?' Janet asked.
'Yup, word seemed to have gotten around too. At least two of the Badari senators offered me their congratulations. They have a very open culture,' Sam commented and slid her shoes from her feet.
'You are taking this very well,' Janet said.
'I'm, what, twelve hours pregnant, if at all? This is not the time to worry, or panic or freak out about the future.'
Sam pulled up her shirt slightly and looked at her stomach with a slight frown on her face, 'I would also like to comment that the human reproductive process is weird.'
Janet gave her an amused look.
'And I feel cheated. I got pregnant without even getting laid.'
'We could rectify that,' Janet suggested, folding her book closed around her finger.
'We've never done it off world before,' Sam said, an evil grin spreading across her face. Janet got to her feet. 'We'll have to be quiet,' Sam added with a glance at the other rooms.
'I'll gag you,' Janet said, offering her hand to Sam.
'Ooh, kinky,' Sam said, her grin threatening to split her face in half as she took Janet's hand and got to her feet.
Janet swatted her gently on the behind with her paperback as they walked towards the bedroom.

'Janet!' Sam called from the bathroom, a note of panic in her voice. 'The stick says I'm pregnant!'
Janet paused the film she'd been trying to watch and virtually ran to the bathroom. Cassie stuck her head out of her bedroom and looked puzzled as she passed.
'You didn't tell me you were taking the test,' Janet accused Sam as she entered the bathroom, a grin on her face.
Sam looked like she was having a crisis of emotion as she sat on the edge of the bath holding the pregnancy test.
'When did Sam get pregnant?' Cassie asked from the doorway.
'Aliens,' Janet said simply, joining Sam on the edge of the tub and putting an arm round her.
'Huh, you blame us for everything,' Cassie joked, her voice concerned.
'I'm pregnant,' Sam said, disbelievingly.
Janet nodded, still smiling.
'I'm pregnant!' Sam repeated, jumping up from the edge of the tub, stick in one hand and finally looking happy about it. 'Crap, I'm pregnant!'
'Seriously, when did Sam get pregnant and where's the Father?' Cassie asked from the doorway.
'Three weeks ago and that'd be me,' Janet said past Sam.
Cassie shook her head and wandered out of the bathroom muttering about her weird family.
XXXX
'I still can't believe you talked me into Lamaze classes,' Sam muttered as she pulled the car to a stop in the parking bay outside the clinic and killed the engine.
'It's important,' Janet told her.
'It's embarrassing,' Sam said, still sitting in the car. 'We'll be the only pair of women there. I get to choose between being a single mother who can't keep a man or a lesbian who had to buy a part of a man.'
'You are a lesbian. Besides, you don't have to be anything except an expectant mother, which you are,' Janet said, unclipping her seatbelt and climbing out of the car.
'But people will ask questions, they always ask questions.'
'Oh just tell them it's classified, it's the truth,' Janet suggested as she climbed out of the car.
Sam smiled a little and looked at her developing bump, 'Hear that kid? You're a national secret.'
XXXX
'Woah,' Sam said suddenly on the far side of the workbench, she bent a little and put her hand onto her stomach.
'Sam?' Daniel asked, already hurrying round the bench to her.
'I need to get to the infirmary,' Sam said, standing upright.
'Are you okay?'
'Fine. Classified just started kicking and Janet needs to feel this.'
XXXX
'Honey! I'm home,' Janet called loudly as she walked through the front door.
'Hah Hah!' Sam called from the sofa.
'Ya know, ah slave away all day,' Janet said in her best southern drawl as she shed her jacket and shoes. 'An' all I ask is a bit o' dinner on the table and a wife whose pleased to see me.' She wandered through to the living room, 'T'aint too much to ask.'
Sam bounced a sofa cushion off her head.
'I am pleased to see you,' she said and then held up her glass, 'because I need juice.'
Janet frowned, 'So I'm just here to wait on you hand and foot, huh?' She perched on the edge of the sofa where Sam was sprawled in sweats and bent to kiss first Sam and then her stomach.
'Yup, I am carrying your child,' Sam said with a smile. 'My breasts are huge and sore, I have hippo feet and I waddle when I walk. You can fetch me juice.'
'Hmm,' Janet said, her hand resting on Sam's stomach. 'How's Classified doing?'
'Fidgeting,' Putting her hand over Janet's. 'I think she's eager to get out.'
'Not long,' Janet reassured her.
XXXX
'Hey,' Janet said to the little bundle in her arms as she cracked open sleepy eyes and gurgled slightly.
'Your Moms sleeping right now, so you get to hang out with Dad.'
The little girl wriggled a little, but then settled back down. 'That's right,' Janet went on, rocking her slightly and wandering around the room. 'I'm your Dad and that's your Mom,' she said, pointing to Sam who was sleeping the sleep of the truly exhausted in the hospital bed.
'Hmm, I think you've got my looks,' Janet went on, brushing lightly at the few wisps of dark hair on her daughters scalp with her fingertips and looking at her daughter's dark eyes that were busy trying to follow her movements, 'but if you've got even half your Mom's brains you'll be okay.'
Janet turned at a noise in the doorway and watched Cassie ease the door to the room open.
'Hi,' Janet whispered with a quick nod towards Sam. Cassie looked at her and then crept in, followed by Jack, Daniel and Teal'c each bearing gifts. Janet walked across to them and hugged Cassie with one arm and said 'Hi' to the guys over her shoulder.
'Want to hold your sister?' She asked and Cassie nodded. 'Here,' she transferred the snug bundle across to Cassie, 'Support her head.' The little girl fidgeted and wriggled again, but she didn't make any other sound. Cassie watched her intently.
'She's cute,' Cassie whispered.
The guys put gifts down onto the bedside table in turn, bearing teddies, flowers and fruit.
'Have you thought of a name?' Teal'c asked.
'Yeah, Sam's gonna name her after her Mom,' Janet said. 'We can't keep calling her Classified.'
